Help find games in my steam acct, for my kids to play

Ok so I have a massive game list via steam(lots of wasted money back in the day on sales and indie games), and just don't even know where to start to sort through games that are appropriate for my 5 year old son and 8 year old daughter.

I would also love to add a bonus if you can find games that would help them build for FPS and RTS game. I know they can't manage Starcraft 2 or Borderlands 2(nor are they appropriate), but games like that is where i want to steer them. I hope in a few years they can join me and my friends on gaming nights and all of us play together.

Anyone who messes with this I will be eternally grateful, as honestly most of those indie games I watch a trailer for it two years ago and now have no clue what they are.

Maybe a tower defense game? e.x. Sanctum, Defense Grid, Dungeon Defenders, Orcs Must Die 1&2

Portal & Super meat boy could be a challenge as well tongue.gif

Magicka? no RTS or FPS but lots of fun in co-op!

Portal 1&2, Audiosurf, GRID, and many racing games in general should be pretty inoffensive.

I don't know much about RTSs but I have played a few Total War and CnC games and they didn't seem too edgy. As far as FPS maybe something like SW Battlefront II or Battlefield Heroes?

My five year old would have a rough go, while he can read basic stuff, he will just be starting Kindergarten this fall, so reading and understanding units might be hard. My 8 year old shouldn't have a problem, my 5 year old though has much better coordination at games, they are both trying to beat the other by beating the entire angry bird star wars now, but the 5 year old beat the 8 year old through the first game.

Orcs Must Die is great for preparing them for FPS games

Defense Grid for strategy

If you want them to play puzzle games, Cogs and Vessel are great

Thomas Was Alone and Little Inferno for the little one

Scribblenaut for the young one to learn vocab

Mark of the Ninja for reaction time

Hacker Evolution Duality for reaction time

Dungeon Siege III for RPG

If they can play Deus Ex: HR, that's FPS and RPG

Appropriate as in content wise? Or 'training' wise for FPS and RTS games? Or both? After you answer that will I start looking through your list of games.

Content is important, but I am a realist, so L4D2 not good lol, but like starcraft 2 I think would be fine.

Also any games in the steam sale under $5 I might get for the kids.

Sorry about the wait. Work called and then I wanted to get some much needed sleep. Anyway...

A 5 year old and a 9 year old... Hmm, they are going to have some trouble with the more complex or fast paced games(especially the 5 year old.). Which kind of rules out FPSs and RTSs for the most part, unless you find simple or slow paced ones. I would say find games just to introduce them to the gaming world, and to help build up their hand eye coordination and advance learning/problem solving skills for when things sometimes get fast paced in other games.

Pretty much any of the tower defense, Bejewel, and puzzle based games.
Some of the indie games will probably be fine as well like FTL, Osmos, ect
Maybe some of the RPGs and racing games
Simcity
Portal 1+2(As long as you don't mind Glados' comments.)
Worms
Maybe some fighting games if you are ok with that.

For an RTS game(for the 9 year old, the 5 year old might get overwhelmed for now, you decide.), I would say Dune 2 if you can find it and get it working on your comp. It is an old RTS game that has a nice slow paced feel to it(while being a bit simple since all the sides are almost identical.) that only has a single player mode.

Sorry if I am a bit conservative with my suggestions, kind of comes from my sister who likes to work at a daycare/kindergarten.

Take a good look at Dungeon Defenders. Bright colors, cartoon graphics, and the main characters are children. They play together as a group to stop monsters from destroying their parents' castle.
Fun game for an adult as well, I play online with 4 friends on the harder settings, very enjoyable.
