Overclocking help...

Thread Starter
I just installed a new computer, here are the specs:

Asus M5A97 2.0 Motherboard
AMD FX-8320 CPU
Corsair VX-550 PSU
Sapphire 5770 GPU
Kingston HyperX Blu Black Series 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
Zalman Z9 Plus ATX Mid Tower Case

I have been experimenting with over clocking and so far it looks like I can't get to 4.2 GHZ. I have decreased all my power saving settings, and disabled LLC. I keep reading to increase the multiplier a little bit at a time and when it's no longer stable increase the vcore. In my bios I have no Vcore settings, but I do have a CPU voltage, and CPU/Nbridge Voltage setting. I increased my CPU Voltage to 4.75 and my multiplier to 21 for 4.2GHZ. Prime95 was finally able to run without errors however my temperatures were approaching 70 degrees so I stopped it. Does anybody have any advice on what else I can do? Thanks.

what programme were you using to read the temperatures. You might have been reading the socket temperature instead of the core temperature.

The safe reccomended core temperature for an 8 core is 61 degrees.

I'm using HWMonitor to read the temps. Also when I changed the CPU Voltage, HWMonitor still had the Vcore as 1.35-1.45.

Under CPU. It's probably because 4.75 is a high voltage. At stock voltage for 4.1 ghz my max temp was 61 degrees.
