Help overclocking E6400 on GB-965P-DS3?

Thread Starter
Hi,
I just built a new computer this week, but I'm not getting the speed I expected. This is my first try at overclocking and I can't seem to get past 2.4GHz. When I try to increase my bus speed past 300MHz, the computer wont start. Even at 295MHz it will one or two tries to start up. I tried increasing the voltage, but I'm a bit hesitant to go much past 1.35V with the stock fan/heatsink.
Are there any other settings I can play with?
Thanks,
Ben

Did you disable C1E, Virtualization, EIST? That's step one. Did you lock the PCIe bus to 100? That's step 2.

We'll start with that.

well considering i have a p5b deluxe and cant get it over 490 fsb i dont think that the ds3 would be a abd alternative for the price when ive heard that it can do far mor ethen that ofcourse i have heard that the p5b d can do that also

anyways for the price you cant beat the ds3 in this chipset

ok what kind of memeory do you have and you gotta make sure its at 1:1 for right now, should be the lowest setting for now so make sure thats all in manual and set that speed,

as styated above make sure pcie between like 100 and 115 i would jsut set it to like 100 for now
and the other pci setting to 33.33 a must do
i would add a notch or two to the north bridge voltage and that shoudl be about it for the most part to get you started

Ok, I've done steps 1-3 and got it to start up at 310MHz, but it was very unstable and crashed several times just before I logged into Windows.
I can't find a regular PCI or northbridge setting in my BIOS. Would that be "System Voltage Control" or "(G)MCH OverVoltage Control"?
@MADMAX22: I'm using G.Skill F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ . I'm not sure what memory settings you mean. All I see in my BIOS is the "System Memory Multiplier" which doesn't have a 1:1 setting.
Thanks,
Ben

On the main bios page, hit ctrl-f1. That unlocks all the advanced overclocking options on the motherboard tweaking page.

Thanks, everything is working fine now. Just had to keep the memory speed less than 900MHz. I'm still doing testing, but I'm up to 3.12GHz and it seems stable.
Thanks again,
Ben
