Aussies and hardware

Thread Starter
i already know that you guys pay an arm and a leg for hardware.
i've personally sold old hardware i've considered junk and each time it went to your awesome island for way more than i'd ever expect to get for them.

so the question is, would it be cheaper for you to buy all your parts in america then have it shipped over to you?
if so why aren't you guys doing this?

just seen another thread (about EA bumping up prices for games) and one of the posts said you guys pay upwards of $100 for a game.
cant you use steam?

We cant buy computer parts from newegg, amazon or even evga, apparently there is some contract between them and the re-sellers here,so they wont supply individual costumers....I must say it F&%K tho, also we do pay more for games via steam or origin, its beyond me why the government doesn't step in and do something about it....And the few things we can buy for our computer abroad, would make it not worth it because shipping prices can be ridiculous and i have also noticed than americans now have the knowledge of our prices and do tend to sell stuff to us more expensively because of that....

quiet often it is cheaper to import stuff. However once items get bulky the postage goes up quiet a bit. It still ends up cheaper a lot of the time. Now that the aussie dollar is tanking its getting less attractive.

Funniest example ive seen is companies getting adobe products, sometimes it cheaper to FLY TO AMERICA, buy it over there and fly back here.

lets say a game on steam cost me $50 but would cost you $100, could i gift it to an aussie and just be charged the $50? and/or would my gift say "you have a gift but you need to pay the other $50?

Yeah it would cost you the $50. I got a copy of L4D2 from a UK friend because you also get the better version. Not the crap censored version we get.

lol if i had the money to do so.
i was thinking about you guys paying so much for semi "meh' hardware.
i actually sold a 5770 on ebay for $120 to someone over there, the auction started at $20.
granted the card overclocked easy to 1ghz core and 1700 vram solid doing 24/7 F@H with temps only hitting 59c with fan at 60%

i ended up refunding him/her the money because i was flashing another graphics card and accidently flashed that card.
but i was blown away at someone wanting to give me that much for a card that was 2 generations old.
still have the card and one day i'll figure out how to unbrick it..

ANYWAYS

i think someone should start a section or thread to get you guys parts at a reasonable price.
maybe give the person a little thank you donation, rep, or something to make more people jump on board.
not sure if thats permitted but i would definitely do it. would even help me get rid of some of these bubble mailers i have for the smaller things lol. still have about 150 of them left over from when i was doing online sales of ecigs.
