Deneb 4Ghz = 4.5Ghz FX chip. My friend has a Phenom II x4 965 and I have the FX 6300. But it doesn't matter as the FX chips prove better in gaming and for me that's what matters the most. The overclock a lot better and use a lot less vcore. It depends upon individual perspective. I think when the Phenom II 4's came out they must have been around the same price as the FX 6300. So if it's the Phenom II x4 vs the FX 6300, the FX 6300 performs better. The FX 4300 is not worth though. Unless you get one for around 80$ tongue.gif

This is wrong since many benches prove this wrong. The performance difference isn't nearly that big. In a lot of cases they perform about the same clock for clock, at least when talking about Vishera. Your equation would probably be accurate if comparing Phenom II to Zambezi or something.

Cinebench 11.5- Phenom II x4 945 (3Ghz)- 3.58pts
- FX 4300 (3.8Ghz)- 3.29pts.

Well the problem is there are two sides to this. Clock for clock single threaded yes it might be true that Deneb @ 4.0-4.2 will equal PileDriver at 4.5-4.7, multithreaded though isn't that close.

From Chartiet at EOCF same specs on both rigs. Granted some might consider this unfair because of a six core versus a quad core but it just isn't that simple with the bulldozer design IMO. I prefer to look at the modules honestly, as AMD's 8-core 4 module about matches intel's quad cores in multithreaded performance. As their own 6-core three modules matches their old Deneb Quads.

For all intensive purposes they're pretty much equal with the edge going to pile driver because of increased overclocability IMO. And i would compare the FX-4000 to the old dual cores and Tri cores, that's just me though.

The FX 6300 is more comparable to the Phenom II x4's and it's okay as they are priced at the same price at which the Phenom II x4's were priced at a year ago or more. The FX 4300 is like a Phenom II x3. Single core performance is good withe the FX chips thogh. Have a look at this.

I think you are exaggerating a little bit,
I believe you need to get an X4 Deneb to 4.2 = FX 63xx 4.8
I stand to be corrected but most Denebs cannot get to 4.2-4.3 without some sort of advanced cooling
deneb 4.0= fx 4.57
deneb 4.1= fx 4.68

Unlike you, I actually gave FX a chance and bought a decent one when I benched it. Also, Deneb can't couldn't beat a PD FX unless it is under dry ice.

I have FX BD, FX PD, A8 Llano, i5 3470, and a PII Thuban overclocked and running side by side every day (except the i5.) I've also owned several Denebs but I ended up just giving them away. I have a 960T unlocked to an X6 and overclocked to 4.0GHz cpu/nb at 3.GHz, and it can't even beat my stock FX-8350 in the majority of situations, and on top of that, my 8350 can do 5GHz+ without any effort.

What's worse is that in that situation (Stock FX vs. OC'd Thuban) the Thuban runs hotter, less stable, draws more power, has a terrible memory controller, and is slower overall. The FX-8350 is better in almost every metric. The 960T is definitely the next chip being replaced as it is the weakest overall, with the exception of the A8, which is just a die shrunk PII. It's obvious why they discontinued the PII, the A8 is next on the retirement list.

3.3GHz Phenom II x6 1100T getting demolished by a 3.5GHz FX-8320. That's only .2GHz difference and the Phenom doesn't even ballpark the FX chip. It's not even remotely close.

Last but not least, the 3.5GHz FX-6300 beating the 3.5GHz Phenom II x4 970 BE in almost every bench. It looks like it would take a 4GHz Phenom II to beat a 3.5GHz FX-6300.

If you think a PII is a workhorse, you should just get a Pentium.

It depends on the workload for performance comparisons. IPC of integer tasks (the majority of desktop workloads) is pretty equal between Deneb and Vishera. Floating Point workloads then Deneb is a bit faster. Deneb does require "advanced cooling" to get to 4.2GHz, but so does Vishera to get to 4.8
