GTX 550 ti fan problem

Thread Starter
I logged onto cube world yesterday for maybe 5 minutes and all of a sudden my graphics card fan got extremely loud. I shut the game off and it still stayed that way. I restarted the pc and as soon as you hit the power button now the fan is just extremely loud. the card gets hot over time but I think its just from the fan being at full power. I tried a lot of things already and nothings worked. MSI afterburner, NVidia control panel fan settings, I checked my bios but didn't see anything about GPU fan speed, ive even reformatted because I was going to anyway so I figured it would work. I really don't want to have to RMA the card and go through the hassle if I don't have to. any suggestions?

What is the temperature of your GPU when the fan runs at full speed?
It sounds like the PWM function on the GPU has stopped working.

you may want to pop the heatsink/fan off and clean it out, and while its off might as well apply some new thermal paste

If software is not recognizing the fan and speed controller, then I believe you have a hardware issue. Could range from a bad fan, bad fan wire or busted PWM controller.
