E6600 OC, need suggestion.

What would be a good vcore setting if I set my E6600 to about 2.8ghz?, I don't want to over-do, or under-ummm-do, the voltage, so what would be a safe voltage to be at?

Edit: My cpu Idle's at 31c just an FYI, and no I don't want to try doing the whole 3.6ghz deal, I just want a moderate but effective OC so see a minor boost during game performance in high action play, and my GPU is already OC'd to 625/930

only you can test what your cpu needs. raise the fsb to 312 and leave the vcore to auto and see how it turns out.

if it wont boot or it crashes, set the vcore to 1.325. that should be more than enough

all loaded, running at 2.8, I will probably get tempted to go higher later, maybe to 3.0 which I figured would be 333fsb, any suggestion on vcore there?

trust me, YOU WILL be tempted to go higher. why not get the most bang for your buck? right?

set the vcore to 1.35v for example and keep raising the fsb (in small increments, like 5mhz) until it wont boot. then either raise the vcore or drop the fsb and run stress tests while monitoring the temps.

whats your cooling setup by the way?

its only good if your load temps are reasonably low. whats your cooling setup? and what do you use to monitor your temps? if you have no idea what im talking about, google and download these programs..

Orthos (beta)
Intel Thermal Analysis Tool
CoreTemp
Speedfan

lol my idle temp at 333fsb, and 1.335 are 33, I used Everest Ultimate Edition, as well as speedfan, and PC Probe to monitor my temps, under load, my CPU peaks at 42, I used the Everest system stability benchmark to get a full load, and it seems to do the trick, and got a 11001 on my 3dmark06 score, so it seems to be pretty stable. Got my VGA set at 636/930 now, and that idles at 52, and at full load 70.

Hi trainmanup,

First of all, don't use everest or pcprobe for your cpu temp. They are very often incorrect, sometimes a little, sometimes alot. For a C2D, Intel's TAT is the best thing to use for cpu temp, it's accurate. Or use Coretemp, I've never used it, but also accurate from what I hear.

Around 1.35v is the stock voltage for C2D, and they OC very well, I've seen many get them over 3ghz with stock vcore. Temps permitting you can take it to 1.4vcore without worry. Don't be scared, I've pushed mine temporarily over 1.5v and so have many others.

Of course you never want too much voltage, going overboard on vcore, especially with not so good temps, is never a good idea either. You want to go with the lowest vcore that will run your OC. And run Orthos on it for several hours if you really wanna know you're stable.

Most C2D's will quite easily hit 3ghz though, so you'll be fine. If you're afraid of going over stock volts, keep it at 1.35 and see what it'll do with that . Honestly though, with good temps you can easily give these chips 1.4v for 24/7 use. Don't fear the OC!!!

wow dude are you serious you got 11K on 3dmark06?

what was your graphic test scores? that 8800 sure is powerful.

anyway, the everest stability test doesnt stress the cpu that much. use TAT for a uber stressed CPU. if your temps on TAT are decent, you have nothing to worry about at all.
