Asus GeForce GTX 560, Want to Overclock it, need help

Hello Guys,

I been using a Asus GeForce GTX 560 DirectCU 1GB DDR5 256-bit for about a year now, never been much of a OCer but now i would like to try it.
Could you guys gimme a hand ? Link to the graphic card specs .
I went to the asus website and i downloaded some utilities, AsusSmartDoctor and ASUS GPU Tweak.
Checked so i have the latest version of driver so i think im ready biggrin.gif

Now... should i use the SmartDoctor HyperDrive feature (if so , on witch setting 3d game/temperature/cpu usage/manual ) ? or do it manually via the ASUS GPU Tweak ? if not, can you suggest what software to use ?

What impact will OCing the graphics card have on my system and the card itself ?
I don't really wanna break it... would be ideal to avoid that biggrin.gif

Could you perhaps give me some indications on what would be a safe OC for it ?
What temps should i be looking out for ? 70c ? 75c ? i mean how HOT shouden't it get ? biggrin.gif
By default GPU is at 810MHZ, Memory is at 4008 MHZ and "Shader" is at 1620MHZ
Idle it stands at 40-42c and in full load around 65-67c (room temp at 29c)

In the ASUS GPU TWEAK there is a "gamer profile" this one sets these values :
GPU 830/Memory 4048/Shader 1660 Is this ok ? ...

What kind of a performance increase am i looking at if i OC it ? im just trying to figure out if its worth it ?
What real risks am i looking at ?

Well thank you for your time guys, i honestly appreciate it!

I would suggest using MSI AFTERBURNER to OC, its very simple. The software your using might be just as good but I know MSI Afterburner is well known and used by a lot of people. With a pretty strong OC on my 560ti I saw an ~8-10% FPS gain, so I think you can achieve a good 4-7% gain in FPS with a moderate OC. You should use a benchmark to test for stability and to benchmark your gains. Something like HEAVEN is good to use and there are others like VALLEY, I really like those two. You can also use MSI Afterburner to set a new fan profile so that you can keep your card running cooler.

Ok cool, ty for the info, ill try that thumb.gif

Can you perhaps tell me what would be a moderate oc ? ... safe lets say, and what temps should i be looking out for ?
And what impact it will have , as in do i shorten the lifespan of the card ?

Ok so this is what i did :

Stock settings :
Clock 810 / Memory 4008 / Shader 1620 / Vcore 1.000

OCed using ASUS GPU Tweak and Asus SmartDoctor , Tested using Heaven

Clock 910 / Memory 4408 / Vcore 1.000 => Full system CRASH (needed to force restart, can this damage my system / video card ?
Clock 910 / Memory 4408 / Vcore 1.012 => Some Artifacting (is this what you call those weird flashes of light? )
Clock 910 / Memory 4408 / Vcore 1.025 => Some Artifacting
Clock 900 / Memory 4398 / Vcore 1.025 => Small amount of Artifacting
Clock 890 / Memory 4388 / Vcore 1.025 => No Artifacting , Apparently Stable

Difference in Heaven Scores : Stock = 34,9 FPS / OC = 38 FPS
Difference in Temps : Stock = 66-67 / OC = 71-72

I also set up a custom fan curve.
Ok so , i could probably get more if i push the Vcore more, question is ... should i do it ? I read that 1.050 would be perfectly safe but i dont know.
So what do you guys think .. is this ok ? should i push for more ? ...did i do it the right way ? biggrin.gif not sure if i should have pushed the memory from the start... maybe i should have gotten clock as far as i can within 1.025 then try memory... i dont know.

Yeah you did a good job, everything you did was good. Make sure your raising your core clocks slowly, you shouldnt get so far behind in voltage that your GPU crashes. Artifacts can mean your slightly behind on voltage but a full crash can mean your way behind with voltage. The flashes of light are artifacts and black jaggies are also artifacts, you don't want to see anything abnormal. I normally do the memory last after I find a stable core clock and voltage. How loud is your fan profile to keep it at those temps? If the fans don't bother you I would say you can raise the voltage to 1.037V or 1.05V. If you get really small gains from the 1.037V dont bother going anymore because you get to the point where your gaining little clock and having to raise the voltage too much. I bet 1.037V is a good stopping point if you want to go one more step, even where your at is a good stopping point you have gotten some good gains. Its up to you if you want to go anymore or stay.

Ok so, after browsing and reading till i honestly got bored i gone ahead and done this.

Raised the Vcore to 1.050 => Clock 910 / Memory 4408 / Shader 1820
(i was getting artifacting at 1.037)
After that i tested with valley on all settings and with Heaven and with 3dmark.
There where no stability issues, no artifacting and the temps never exceeded 74c. I ran tests for about 3 -4 h
SO ALL WAS FINE BUT!

Now some wired things are happening, PC all together seems a little more sluggish... and I am getting checker-boarding in my browser, witch never happened before ... now... should i be worried ?

If you only got 20mhz out of the added .025V I would just go back to the 1.025V at 890mhz. Thats too much extra voltage for that little of a clock speed increase.
