Unfortunately I have no idea what OS or what revision is on this computer. Would a 4870 for Mac work in Leopard through Lion?

There are some on the front, and some behind the memory risers and some as you know on the risers themselves. If it gongs it's posted that's why I think it's just a dead graphics card which is also probably why it was put away. 4870's will work all the way through ML and Mavericks if they don't change anything from DP3 to GM. Pick one up on ebay, flash it and try it, the one for Mac are still take your breath away expensive and only 512MB.

I'll look into grabbing a compatible video card then. I'm on a tight budget right now, so that probably won't be for a couple of months.

I got the info from the discs that I needed though. However, when I plugged in the HDD with the OS installed, I got several errors about corrupt volumes. I'm running a repair tool on it now, kinda hoping in the back of my head that it might boot now lol. Doubt it, but a man can hope.tongue.gif

Edit: Still no luck, but now I'm about 99% sure its the video card. Earlier I said that the fan was spinning loud (the rear exhaust fan) but just for ****s and giggles I unplugged the 6-pin from the GPU and booted it and it was quiet as a mouse. Plugged the GPU back in and the loud vacuum sound is coming from the GPU and not from the exhaust fan as I originally thought.

So, I guess I'm picking up a new GPU. Thanks for the help guys smile.gif

Looks like you are on the right track. I would have been suspecting the video card as well. interested to see what happens for you. Either way it would probably not hurt to flash the card to an Apple ROM. That computer had original install disks of 10.4 (tiger) Some people were just stubborn to upgrade. I would also as suggested leave the memory in the original config. More than likely that part is fine.
