Hello,

It's been a while since i've been on overclock.net,

i've kinda been out of the loop for a little while, and am looking to upgrade my current setup which is my abit ip35pro, q6600 quad core, ddr2!!! ram, but my most recent upgrade was a 560gtx ti hawk,

is the graphics card still okay for current games? mainly looking to upgrade mobo and cpu

best value, maybe $300-400 to spend on?? less?? more??

let me know what you got, don't really know the current chipsets to well but have heard good things about these new i5's and i7's

Thanks

What you are aiming for is either the 3rd generation or 4th generation intel series. For gaming purposes the i5-3570k(ivy, 3rd gen) or i5-4670k(Haswell, 4th gen) would be a great performance increase. The i5-3570k uses the 1155 socket, and the newer Z77 Express motherboard whilst the i5-4670k is a socket 1150 and the chipset series is atm Z87.

For the RAM you would go for some 8GB 1600MHz Dual Channel Memory Sticks(a pair of 2x4GB).

So what you need is the following:

i5-3570k or i5-4670k
Z77 or Z87 Motherboard (look up reviews)
A set of RAM.

I would recommend that you look for a i5-4670k and a Z87 motherboard, as the Haswell series is the newest intel generation and would have a bigger sell profit if you decide to sell it one day. Also the Haswell series performs roughly 10% better than the Ivy Bridge, that is if none of them is overclocked, and price wise they are equal.

If you need further advice, just tell me and i will help you find some hardware.

Just a small note: The GTX 560 is 2 generations old, it can still perform well at a decent resolution (1920 x 1080p) probably at a low-medium graphic settings (ofc this is dependent on the game your playing).

Thanks for the reply

Yeah those cpu's and mobos look really good i was looking on newegg, and they even had a deal if you buy the cpu and mobo together save 100$

So i'll def go with one of those combos, but which chipset the 77 or the 87??

Both should be ok for med overclocking right?

I have always had a good experience with g.skill ram,

Should i aim for an sli board and get another 560 or aim for getting a new card soon??

It seems to play games great so far. all I use is 1920by1080p,

Is the newegg deal worthwile should i take advantage of it?

Thanks guys

Something like that would be a significant upgrade.

I agree with what was said above. The GTX 560ti is still capable if you lower some settings.
