Need a LAN case by next weekend, help me find the right one?

Thread Starter
I'm currently using a Thermal Take Armour+ full tower case, and it's a bit of a monster and I'm looking at moving it down a few notches for portability.

I'm just wondering what everyone is using in terms of light/compact cases for LAN gaming? I'm currently using a ATX mobo and a ATI 6970, along with an aftermarket CPU cooler (Venomous X), but would consider changing my hardware for the right case. I'm also weary about upgrades in the future - I don't want to have to miss out on an awesome product because it won't the case, and of course keeping everything cool should I decide to OC.

At the moment I'm looking at the following:
  • CM Scout 2
  • Fractal Design Define R4 Black Pearl
  • CM HAF XB
  • Bitfenix Survivor
  • Corsair 600T
  • Bitfenix Prodigy (but not sure if my aftermarket CPU cooler will fit)

Any suggestions/advice? Thanks in advance!

Corsair C70
would be my vote, super tough case for lan partys thumb.gif
This case is full steel (no plastic yay) great handles for moving the case around, solid cable management.

The prodigy would not work your MB is way too large for such a small case btw.

CM scout 2 - Good solid case with steel handles but the stock cooling is terrible
Fractal design define R4 - Good case
CM HAF XB - Well built but like the cm scout 2 the stock cooling is not good
Bitfenix survivor - This has handles but the stock cooling is terrible
Corsait 600t - Well built but stock cooling is not amazing
Bitfenix prodigy - good case but it is mini itx.

If you are considering changing your hardware then it might be worth going mini itx if you need it to be that portable.

Out of the cases suggested i would personally go with the CM scout 2 but upgrade the cooling at the same time or get the advanced version which has extra fans.

I would recommend the CM Storm Scout 2. The handles are insanely strong and it looks awesome! Its very quite versatile and well worth the price! thumb.gif

Thanks for your help everyone. The CM Storm Scout is looking pretty nice at the moment. For anyone that owns one: Is it quite big? Lots of "mid tower" cases end up being almost as big as a full tower, which isn't' really what I'm after.

Good to know the handles are steel too! Would hate to have a flimsy case smile.gif

Thanks for your help South80. What would you suggest to get some decent cooling out the CM Storm Scout 2? (Air cooling btw, I don't have WC).

No problem.

i would say the best confiquration for cooling would be one or two fans at the front ( two included in the advanced version), a rear exhaust fan (included in both versions) and a top exhaust fan. Then add a side fan if you need extra gpu cooling.

Depending on what country you live in, the advanced version can be cheaper then buying the extra fans for the standard version separately.

I live in New Zealand, and can't seem to find the advanced version anywhere - weird. Looks like I'll be buying 2 fans for intake.

Does the fan controller on the case (LED on/off) work for any fans? Never had that function on a case before so I wouldn't want to buy the wrong type of fans and not be able to use it.

Cheers!
