cuda mining

Thread Starter
hello, I am in the minority when it comes to mining I see but I bought my graphics card to play games first and foremost. so mining is a secondary priority.

current setup is
3570k
evga titan
underwater

so I would like to start this thread to get some info about what people are getting and what is working.

my current coin I am mining is litecoins based on that they apprently are asic resistant. I am getting 350 khs right now and hoping with some more tweaking I can get it up higher.

ps yes I know amd is spanking nvidia and please we already know it so lets try to be constructive in the equipment we have. instead of defaulting to buying something else

yes, I understand that. But can a 7790 do 60 fps in 1440p in Battlefield 3?
You must know mining does not favour CUDA but AMD and if you want to get the most coins, you should rather have an AMD card or ASIC's for dedicated mining

oh asic based units can run Battlefield in 1440p at 60 fps on ultra? I didnt know that
post #6 of 13
Have you seen this thread linked by dimaggio?

Have or haven't it doesn't really matter because miners of OCN aren't trying to optimize NV mining.
It's just not profitable, especially with the current difficulty.
So you're just not going to get much useful feedback here.

Heck I wouldn't be mining anymore if I were paying the elect bill.

I am going to bump this post.

Recently I decided to try my hand at this mining thing. Get to know it and what not and I am going to be straight with you, don't be coming to me telling me to not bother with my nVidia card and just dump it and go with AMD because this is not the primary purpose of this machine. If it looks like it might be something that is worth my time I will build a AMD GPU rig for this however, I am someone that likes to go with the unconvential way of things. With that said here is what I am looking at:

I have a GTX 780 and I have been playing around with it for about a day now. With RPCminer-Cuda I was getting some odd things. Seemed to be working except for two oddities:

one was I kept getting this message each time it found a hash: server sent {"error":null, "id": 1, "result": false}

That would happen with every result it found.

Also the other thing was when ever it displayed the 'hash' speed it was displaying above 110000 khash/s and people were telling me that was impossible instead of just telling me why it was and what was wrong.
See the screen shot for more details: http://cdn.overclock.net/3/3b/3b7cf61e_Untitled.png

With that being said it looked like no credit was given during that time frame.

I am useing the guiminer now I think it what it is called and I am mhashing between 260 - 300 with the GTX 780.

If in fact a khash is a 'kilo' like in a 'kilobyte' then that would be accurate becuase it would only have been hashing at around 107.4 mhash/s (what I was getting with rpcminer-cude) which is far slower then what I am getting now with guiminer.

I would like some constructive input on this where I am learning here. Thank you all in advance.

I replied to you in that thread, since nobody else was helping you: http://www.overclock.net/t/1398250/tutorial-how-to-start-mining-litecoins/400_100#post_20870218

RPC Miner is for mining Bitcoin, if you want to mine Litecoin, you need cudaMiner. Mining with an NVIDIA card is not smart, but mining Bitcoin with an NVIDIA card is even less smart.

I suggest you just mine Litecoin with cudaMiner, if you're really set on mining with your GPU.

You know, it's not that nvidia mining is just sub-optimal. You are most likely LOSING money unless you don't pay for power, not to mention the stress you put on the card.

Pretty much. The only reason a person with NVIDIA should be mining is because electricity is free and they already have the GPU. It's even less logical when it's any mobile GPU (laptop), since they'll destroy the device.
