Looking for a good video converter and compression software - Page 2

I'm not trying to "push" Ripbot264 on anyone, and I'm not marginalizing any of the other great suggestions so far. Any one of the aforementioned software packages will get the job done.

Specifically for Ripbot though - there isn't an installation package. You download the .zip file, extract it and drop the extracted folder and it's contents any where you want. Again, no installation required. If you don't like it, delete the zip file and the extracted folder and move on.

DVDFab is a well regarded AV encoding/decoding app. and the player is pretty good too.

I just don't need the player. I've got WMP, CyberlinkPDVD and VLC to handle all my playback requirements.

MeGUI with the included x264 encoder will give you very good quality at low bitrates: http://sourceforge.net/projects/megui/

See this comparison of codecs: http://compression.ru/video/codec_comparison/h264_2012/

The video preview only works if you use an AviSynth script for your video input, and I think MeGUI previews the script's output without the encoder. However, you can preview the video by using AviSynth's internal trim filter to encode a short clip.
