Honestly, I thought the title was perfectly fine as well. A bit blunt, sure. But nothing terribly deceiving or outrageous.

But just to keep things relaxed. Probably best to change it seeing as it ruffled some feathers. tongue.gif

Why does it seem like everyone is attacking frick? The title is what it is we all KNOW that women and men are equal because we aren't' idiots. Although I'm not sure I could say the same for most of the world.. The reality of it is there still heavy discrimination in the workplace among other places and while this SHOULDN'T be news, it is because humanity still sucks..

Unrelated: I just realized I used the word "is" about 10 times..

Seriously though, this is huge news but unless she has influcence over Microsoft's PR team, it doesn't help them much. IMO, their policies weren't the main issue. It was the way it was portrayed and the public's lack of understanding the benefits of policies. Rather than focusing on game sharing, automatic updating, customized XBL experience, cheaper online store games etc. the focused on one-a-day or brick DRM and no used games.

THAT'S HUGE.

It's a milestone for women's rights everywhere since she managed to get to the same top position as her male counterparts. A position, as said before, had NEVER had a woman in it before.

This is incredible. Especially given the male bias in today's working world.

I know what you're getting at, but Yahoo's CEO is a woman, the previous Secretary of State was a Woman, and even the Director of the National Geo-spacial Intelligence Agency is a woman. Not to mention, she was already the head of another department. So just another job to her.

Here is food for thought, just about every other major position you did not specify is filled by a male. Just some perspective.

Having a handful of recognizable positions in the hands of the female populace, is a far cry from where we should be.

I am kind of on the happy side of this for once, so I will join Frick in being a little over-excited smile.gif

CEO Male/Female Percentages:

This is a list of women who currently hold CEO positions at companies that rank on the 2013 Fortune 1000 lists. Women currently hold 4.2 percent of Fortune 500 CEO positions and 4.6 percent of Fortune 1000 CEO positions. Source

Most gaming company execs are guys. Most of them don't play the games. Please list the gaming company execs you like then. The bad far outweigh the good. Mattick was awful, Kotick is awful, EA is terrible, Ubisoft is terrible, THQ was not good. Blizzard/Steam have their issues.

Really the only company I can think of that is well liked by everyone is Naughty Dog (which has an above average female employee presence for a video game company. I even remember watching quite a few behind the scenes videos and many of the interview subjects were females working on the projects), and even demand female focus group testers. So, I'd argue, having female presence is big, and great for gamers, that prefer more depth/balance/not just another call of duty ripoff and microtransactions and DRM (all male ideas).

That's what I'm trying to say, most of those companies you mentioned have people in charge that do not play games the way most of us do which often leads to decisions that we disagree with. It's especially a problem with publishers that tell developers what they should or shouldn't do when it's the developers who actually know what they're doing. I'm not saying someone who doesn't play games can't do a good job I just think it would be better in general if they were gamers.

Yet again missing the point, just because there are less (Or far less) females in high ranking positions is not an argument for why there should be more. Currently the government think that because there are less women in high ranking position ins I.T. etc they they should be given the job regardless of a male candidates higher experience qualifications etc.

IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE THE BEST PERSON FOR THE JOB.

It's not Frick ... what you see here is EXACTLY the power of the 'attention-grabbing headline'. As you've probably deduced, it's now been changed from what it was originally. But that Headline is what got the people into this thread.

Sorry I meant to imply that female representation in video game companies is beneficial for video game companies, and video game experience may not necessarily be what helps.

This was not necessarily directed at you, but what I've seen/dealt with. I've been to video game focus groups that have ranged from casual to hardcore and they say the stupidest/most unrealistic things (80%of the time) for what they want from a game. Imagining one of those people at the head of a company would result in the company getting driven into the ground. You hear about a lot of kickstarter video game projects running out of funds/into delays because they cannot manage a company/funds/budget. Having a diverse range of backgrounds/genders is great however for creating a better experience. Gamers/non-gamers, etc.

Also to the other person who said girls don't game, I think the unofficial # is around 50%.
quick google result:
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2008-12-07-video-games_N.htm?csp=34
"Survey: Over half of adults, 50% of women play video games"

And we're not talking candy crush/princess/mobile games. Lots of MMORPG's, single player, etc. Why do you not hear them? Because they get harassed online constantly. And talked down to. And etc. So it's a silent majority.
