Old OC-able PIII, and W98 Explorer help

OK, I just got this FULLY OVERCLOCKABLE PIII, with everything from voltage, cpu, and bus options to ram timings. Before reformatting the HD, I want to see what overclocking software the previous owner had...but when I boot into windows (98) it says that windows explorer has performed an elligal operation. Same thing in safe mode. I can get into windows, but once I'm, in windows nothing (other than ctrl-alt-del) works, since WE is screwed. Is there any way to fix WE, or should I just wipe windows?

BTW, what's the best monitoring software to use on an old PIII with an AWARD BIOS?

Wipe the HD and use Win2k. Perfect for old PCs, 2k on my mom's PII runs like XP on my Barton.

I usually just use XP.....I'm running it on my 233Mhz P2 lappy, and it runs fine.

OK. On my mom's PC, a 200MHz PII OCed (yes, OCed ) to 225, XP runs like crap. I tried it on a spare HDD and I might as well be using a virtual machine. That said, I am also especially picky with speed because I use Win2k3, which is the fastest Windows-based (IMO) OS there is.
