4670K + Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E

Thread Starter
How far can I expect to push a 4670K on the Silver Arrow SB-E?

4.6 GHz?

Depends on chip and whether you delid. 4.7Ghz should be doable

In terms of overclocking success on standard air cooling you should expect anywhere from 4.3GHz - 4.7GHz at somewhere in the 1.2 - 1.35V range.

We managed to overclock it to 4.4GHz with no voltage adjustments, just like the Core i7-4770K, and from there, it ran noticeably cooler, even with 1.3V and a clock speed of 4.7GHz. However, we just couldn't get it 100 per cent stable at this level, even with a voltage of 1.32V, where the heat then became an issue, even for our Corsair H100i. Knocking it back to 4.6GHz solved the issue and we were also able to reduce the voltage back down to 1.26V too, with anything lower resulting in errors in our video encoding test.

The 4670K managed to overclock up to 45 – 4.5GHz from 3.40GHz, a 32% overclock. This is a significant increase but it did require a fair amount of vcore - 1.45v to be exact. After several hours of trial and error no amount of voltage increase within the barrier of safe temperatures (not exceeding 95C) would allow the core frequency to move beyond 4.6GHz and remain stable.

You are more likely to be temp-limited than stability-limited. Run Linpack 11 -- it uses the AVX2 instructions. That Linpack version makes a Haswell crazy hot.
