Windows 7 PC restarting?

Thread Starter
My PC has been restarting once a day for ages now and I really want it fixed, ive unchecked auto restart so that I can see the BSOD but so far its still just restarting? Ive also checked the mini dump folder and theres no recent files, I used to get a BSOD error that was related to my Nvidia GTX 440 but I have recently bought a 660 and im still getting the restarts.

Does it restart while you're using it?  How is it restarting?  e.g. Does the screen suddenly go black and the system reboot, or does Windows shutdown normally and reboot?

Both inadequate power or an overheated CPU can cause the computer to suddenly black-out and reboot, with no errors/warnings.  Download CPUID HWMonitor and see what it reports for CPU temperatures and PSU voltages.  If you're able to do CPU intensive tasks without causing a blackout, its probably not CPU temperature related, however.

Bad memory is another possibility, although this frequently will leave a BSOD message.

run CMD as admin

type: sfc /scannow

that will look for and try to correct corrupted system files.

I ran scannow and it fixed a few broken files but there were some it couldn't fix, I dont think the cpu is overheating but ill run HW monitor later on. Ive also ran windows memory test and it said everything was ok.
