How to team NIC in dual ethernet LAN?

Wow. This forum is huge and reminds me of a mega shopping mall in my area. I recently installed an ASRock Z87 Extreme9/AC motherboard which has dual ethernet LAN, have connected a pair of ethernet cables from my Verizon FIOS modem, but my download speed has plummeted from about 57Mbps to under 4Mbps. ASRock's technical support told me I have to team my NIC. Any advice from here would be much appreciated. I have other questions, but I'll post those in appropriate sections if possible. Thank you.

eh, one 1gbit nic is perfectly fine for FIOS. something else is wrong. Have you tried calling Verizon?

Other things to check:
-is someone else using the bandwidth?
-power cycle the modem and routers?
-run speedtest.net on your desktop as well as another device (laptop, ipad, smartphone, etc)? How do they compare?

I haven't restarted my Verizon FIOS modem yet and am sure that Verizon's tech support will suggest it during a talk through. When I couldn't play video clips on Facebook or YouTube without frequent buffering I visited speedtest.net and discovered my big download penalty. Motherboard user guides are full of incomprehensible arcana a non-overclocker like me doesn't understand, and my ASRock's guide only instructed me on what I must plug in, not how to setup their dual ethernet LAN in "team NIC." I'm grateful for your reply. Thank you.
