The P60ST60 is apparently one of the nicest TVs out for the past year but is it really big enough? My living room is 16' x 14' so I expect the viewing distance will be 10', perhaps more...but I really can't afford more than $2000...I didn't even want to spend that much, including the mount.

However I know this is one of those 10 year decisions so I'm willing to make that choice I suppose. But do I really need to go bigger? I saw THX recommends 40 degree viewing angle but that would put me in the 70" range...I don't even know what TV to get anymore!

Thoughts? The last thing I want to do is get something slightly small and regret it.

With my GT50 55" in my computer room I have my couch positioned exactly 8' away from it at slightly above eye level. I found it would be better to be around 6.5'-7' close to it so there's a more enveloping experience. My VT60 upstairs is the 65" model at 10/11' away and I find that more pleasurable.

You can get the VT60 and ST60 @ 65" for almost the same price new at around $2200 and then include the mount in that purchase as well for around $2400 w/o taxes. Going the 60" route would be $1700 for the ST60 w/mount so a pretty substantial drop in price.

I would stick to what you can afford, the extra 5" isn't going to make or break the viewing experience and it's debatable if it really is worth that extra $700. I'd say unless you're consuming media on it for more than a few hours every day you'd be fine with the 60" form factor.

Is the VT60 really that much better than the ST60? All the reviews I see show the ST60 better than the VT60. Is there anything better than both of them? Has the ZT60 been discontinued?

If it's really that close I might as well get the VT60. Thoughts?

I could be crazy but it looks like Best Buy got their TVs mixed up...

The P65ST60 is currently listed at $2599
The P65VT60 is currently listed at $2149
The P65ZT60 is currently listed at $2899

If I'm correct, the TVs in order of quality are supposed to be

Best: P65ZT60
Middle: P65VT60
Least: P65ST60

Not saying any of them are bad, but going by specs. Shouldn't the P65VT60 be listed at $2600 while the P65ST60 is $2200? Can someone please comment? I'm actually looking to buy tonight or tomorrow.

Thank you!

The difference between the ST60 and VT60 would be that the VT can achieve slightly deeper blacks, the ST has a 3000FFD (focus field drive) compared to 2500, the VT also has an ultra black pro filter rather than a normal black pro filter making for better use in more brighter rooms as well as having a 2.5x higher shades of gradation. The VT also has 4 pre-set picture modes as well including THX Cinema which gets you close to real calibration.

A lot of that is trivial unless you stand them next to each other and the FFD ratings I wouldn't make a deciding factor.

Your assumptions are correct as well for the order and the prices are harder to judge simply because the ST60 is newer than the VT60. Amazon has the VT60 for $2400 and ST60 for $2200. You'll be happy with either I think in the end really, difference are minute compared to the price tag difference.

Since this gonna be the last year that Panasonic is gonna be making their line of plasma sets. I would tell you to go for the best model you can afford. Coming from someone who watches alot of blu-rays I highly recommend the VT60 its a superb set. The main reason that the ST has reviewed so highly is for its cost and overall bang for your buck, but there is some nasty input lag on the ST from what I have heard. Also the price for the VT60 dropped during the holiday week to try to boost some of the sales so get it while you can for a steal of a deal! Also remember that these are great plasma more lower lit areas, but in a well lit room you mite be better off with the Samsung F8500. The black levels are going to be better on the VT vs the ST, VT features 2 IFS professional picture modes, and some other stuff that I can't think of right now.

VERY IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE: Break these sets in and Watch the blu-ray for Pacific Rim on this set...the colors T_T

ZT60 would be your top of top for plasmas matching and some say beat the Kuro, if you want the best panny plasma before they close up shop on them that's the one I'd go for

I believe the ST and VT were both announced at the same time for the 2013 lineup but the VT hit shelves later

I would of gotten the ZT60 myself it wasn't close to 1000 more vs the VT60. If you can find a deal on the ZT60 grab it otherwise I would say stick with the VT60 and spend the extra money on a pro calibration. I don't know if your looking at building a whole home theater, but I would also recommend investing in a Oppo 103!

You are gonna be happy with which ever model you decide on at this time none of them are a bad choice smile.gif

VT and ST came out at the same time for the record.
