Is getting a 4870 worth it?

There's a guy on the local CL selling a Sapphire 1GB 4870 for $50. I'm getting real tired of my 9800GT, and by looking at benchmarks, the 4870 seems much better than the card I have now. Should I go for it, or should I just wait and save up more for a better card? Thanks.

No, definitely save up.

EDIT: But if you were to buy a card now. There is a EVGA Bstock GTX 275 for $50 or a GTX 260 216 for $40. Both are noticeable upgrades IMO.

That was quick, lol. It seems to also compare well with the 7770. I need to get a new OS Drive as mine is on it's way out, should I spend the $100 I have right now on a better SSD? EDIT: As in, that would probably be a better boost in performance over all than the 4870?

If you are gaming, go for the video card but if you want some giddyup in your OS and applications, go for the SSD. Depends on what you want but if I were you, if you upgrade the video card 4870 or GTX 260/275, you will see a difference but not a world's difference. At the end of the day, it's still an oudated card, just better than yours. Go for the SSD imo.

I would get the SSD then save up for a new card! I wont run a computer without a ssd! I would also, watch craigslist for cards. I got both of mine for 225$ on CL I do want to upgrade but, I am able to play everything I play on max!biggrin.gif and when I do upgrade 2 of my kids will have decent cards.
