Low FPS?

My dad plays Nascar 2003 in a league. He complains he has low FPS in comparison to other guys in his league. He has an M5A99FX...FX 8350 and 2- GTX 560TI SLI....and I believe 16 GB RAM....He plays on a 48" tv running through the HDMI cable.....with a 27" montior as secondary display. I had both cards overclocked to 900.....with the game both cards were downclocked to 405 the whole time......his FPS were 35-50. I went in to NVIDIA settings for the game...turned off V-sync...and "cranked up" all the settings...and set the cards at factory speeds (ASUS-830)....then ran the game. The speeds stayed @ 830....but the frame rates were pretty much the same. The game shows no signs of performance issues...its just that other guys in his league brag of FPS over 100. I tell him there are several unknown variables in their clams....such as monitor and settings. But should he see higher FPS with this system?

Some games in the menu have a frames cap limit set. or if you go into the config.ini file you should be able to change it manually

The game will jump up to 70-80 FPS for brief moments....but seems like average should be much higher.

Nascar 2003, sounds like its single threaded. That's not exactly AMD's strong point. Did his friends with 100+fps mention what their systems run for a processor? They might be running sandy bridge/ivy/haswell.

Having the fps spike above refresh rate at times points to the game NOT capping the fps. Changing the video settings from high to low and not seeing a change? Both situations point to a CPU bottleneck because of a poorly threaded game.

Have you tried overclocking the 8350? It should help.

No overclocking on the 8350.....will try that.....thanks....and I think alot of these guys that are claiming high FPS I believe are running "off the shelf" systems.
