Last month AMD launched two FX-9000 series microprocessors, aimed at high-end consumer market. The FX processors were planned to be shipped in desktop PCs first, and eventually become available in retail as boxed products. The CPUs boasted extremely high base clock frequencies, but they also had very price and power consumption. When launched, the FX processors were expected to perform as overclocked FX-8350 SKU, and recently posted benchmarks of the FX-9590 confirmed these expectations. Last weekend both CPUs finally appeared in stock in one of well-known US online stores, TigerDirect.com. What's more, the FX-9370 and FX-9590 are also shipped in iBUYPOWER gaming PCs, offered by the store.

But, with very high frequency comes a high price. According to multiple reports, the FX-9370 and FX-9590 were initially listed by TigerDirect for $319 and $829 respectively. At this time, only the FX-9370 is available in stock, priced at $353.34. If building PCs is not your forte, then you can buy ready-to-use iBUYPOWER desktop computer with either FX-9370 or FX-9590, although you may need to wait up to 30 days to get it. iBUYPOWER gaming PC with AMD FX-9590, 16GB DDR3, 1TB HDD, 120GB SSD, and 3GB ATI Radeon HD 7970 graphics card will set you back $2,637. Computers with the FX-9370 microprocessor are significantly cheaper, ranging in price from $1109 to $1592, depending on the type and/or size of supplied memory, disk drive and GPU.

At TigerDirect, the FX-9370 is more expensive than the 4770K.

The performance isn't there to justify an $829 price tag.

Aren't you always complaining about Intel's high prices? But when AMD does it, it's perfectly fine, even if the performance isn't there to justify the high price tags.

And as you can see by this rig, it isn't aimed at "extreme overclockers", rather it is aimed at the gullible who don't know better.

I'm thinking that anyone who is about to spend $2700 on a computer will at least do some research, and will quickly figure out that there are better options out there.

You guys have a tendency to forget that 99% of the population ARE NOT OCN Members! People spend ridiculous amounts of $$ on dumb sh%t all the time! In example....Beats by Dr. Dre! lol
I could go on for days listing examples. Somebody will buy one thinking that it is worth the price. I love AMD but I would never buy one of these because I know how to READ!

interesting how tiger has it printed as 16mb cache for both l2 and l3 where they have the 8350 as 16mb for l2 and l3 combined or 8 and 8 wonder if it does actually have 16mb for both or twice that of the 8350 or if that is a typo but $350 isnt too bad a price id pay that for it if i had the cash for a new rig

Feel sorry for those who get ripped off and buy that, when they could get a rig with a 3930K or a 4770K for less. I guess if they don't do research and look at the other options on the site, then they deserve it.
Well there are people out there that will buy it. All companies have done it before, nothing new so it is pointless to single out AMD.

Not exactly the great price performance we come to expect form AMD. One would have hoped that thees very expensive CPU's would have had a bit more tweaking done under the hood and not just highly binned piledrivers.

Have to say i don't know what AMD are thinking with these FX 9xxx CPU's. Did they learn nothing from the Pentium 4 era...... We all know that you need MOAR MEGAHURTZ! Nevermind how poor your single thread ipc is just make it go faster...... That always fixes these issues....... Right:rolleyes:.

AMD should be looking to go LESS TDP not crazy 200+W monsters. Most AMD MoBo's seem to be throttling 83xxFX CPU's with high overclocks so whats stopping them doing the same to some of these.

Thanx.

Agree its high price for a novelty chip!

But think , so amd price 1 chip above the norm, their fastest and everyone is bashing them for it. - Give it a rest

They still offer other other good priced products

Welcome to Planet Earth. People bought P4EE like it was the Holy Grail. People buy Alienwares like they're the second coming of Jesus. And Beats crap because they are advertised by some loser.

AMD just said 'Who cares, some will buy them and we have massive margins on these things'.
