Moved Crossfire setup to new motherboard. No space between cards. Causing overheating. Need help with a solution.

Hello,

Hoping this is the right board to post in but here goes:

Today i moved my 2 Radeon HD 5850s into my new rig. The new motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R v2. Due to the way the PCI Express x16 slots are spaced on this particular motherboard, there is virtually no space between the two cards. Basically the second card is in the way of the first cards airflow. Im pretty bad at explaining things so ive made a picture using the motherboards layout to show what the issue is. At the moment, the first GPU is about 63C on idle and 80C on load, so im kinda afraid to use it sadsmiley.gif

What i want to do is make more space between the two but im not exactly sure how to go about doing that. What would be preferable is move the card down with an extender (if they exist) or something like. There are currrently no other cards in the PCI 1x or 8x slots so that space on the motherboard can be used if there is an extender option.

If anyone has any ideas, please share because im struggling to find a solution.

Why not move the card down 1 more? and you can put a fan in the back of them with some creativity are fabrication and if you do not want to do that get some rubber corks and put on bottom card between them to lift it up some more and that will help a little bit

I cant move the card down. The only other slots are x8 slots. would putting one of the cards in a x8 slot work? i thought it would bottleneck the card...

Im not sure i can lift the card without ejecting it.

well If you do not have a card in the x16 slot that x8 slot should goto x16
and not by much it wont eject its locked in

Ok so unfortunately Crossfire ribbon wasn't long enough to get to the second card when I moved it to the x8 slot. :S

I also tried raising the card like you suggested but it didn't budge. frown.gif

It did move a little but not enough to make any change with the airflow issue
