yea my cas7 1600 muskin redline (ocd to 1866) benches about the same at cas 10 2400 ram. Also my mobo deosnt support anything higher than 1866 so kinda stuck with it.

With some CPUs, a point is reached where if you get anything faster, then you're only going to see minimal gains and it quickly only becomes worth it for competitive benchmarking.

Here's an example from the days of Sandy Bridge:
