They're a sub company of Asus made for budget low end systems. They do their job trust me but just don't expect a spectacular overclock from them since they have a Via NB.

I've read about transistors breaking off very easily. It might have just been that board, but I can't say for sure since i've never owned one.

If your looking for a good OCer for C2D, I would go for the 965P chipset or 975. The 965P is the best out there right now.

I just looked... it was 8x.. I think.

Well overall what's the best option? I really can't pay more than $250, TOTAL, which is tiny, which is why I wanted to keep my CPU and RAM.

Well any board that you buy with both DDR1 and DDR2 DIMM slots on it will be horrible for OCing. You should just wait till you can get a better board and memory and processor at the same time.

Does anyone know if its possible to hack a P5B that takes pents and celerons to take cel D's? it would make sense, I think it can even take prescott pents, why not one with a quarter the cache...

The ASRock 775Dual-VSTA will support the hardware you've got with Core2 support. Don't concern yourself with the PCI-E 4x socket, the vast majority of PCI-E graphics cards that exists today do not make use of the full bandwidth in a 8x PCI-E slot, let alone a 16x PCI-E slot.

I've owned this board and have run an X1950XT in it and my benchmark scores were virtually identical to those of people running the card in a PCI-E 16x slot... You wont see any performance loss due to the 4x slot at this moment in time. Perhaps in 2008 it might start to become an issue for you, but by then you'd of upgraded fully I would expect...

Yes, the ASRock motherboards do not have all the bells and whistles of more expensive boards, but they're not inherently poor quality. I've owned and run sever ASRock boards and have had no issues with them. I've only had one that died on me and that was after almost four years of use. I've had other, more expensive motherboard die on me much sooner.

Overclocking is supported on the 775Dual-VSTA, but you won't be able to alter your v-core, unless you do it manually by volt-modding the board, or CPU.

Personally, if I were you, I'd just hold off on the upgrade until the money becomes available to do it properly. That, or just get a really good o/c'ing board for your existing hardware and worry about Core2 later on.

Highly-Annoyed

Wait... it appears newegg has it wrong.

http://usa.asus.com/search.aspx?sear...&searchkey=P5B

Would you all agree with me that it clearly says the P5B's support the celeron D, and theres no way newegg could have earlier revisions or something?

Yep, it supports celeron D. It's a great board; if you want to get that, it'd be a good buy .
