Just to play devil's advocate how many other places will give refunds on games? None of the physical retailers, Walmart, Gamestop, none of them will give a refund on PC games. I know a lot of the other digital distribution systems, like Origin, gives ZERO refunds and will kill your account if you initiate a chargeback.

Steam denied my refund for this game and this is the email I sent the dev's....
Quote:
Hello,

I recently purchased this game on steam and have had not been able to play for more than 5 minutes, because the game is unplayable. There are A LOT of issues that occur with the game, in both DX9 and DX11 modes. The following issues occur to me:

-DX11 very bad in game performance, compared to DX9 (Only fixed by putting object detail to low and none of the other options make a difference)
-DX9/DX11 Invisible enemies, invisible character models
-DX9 "black barrel" around character model, so you can not see anything
-DX9 flickering of sky and shadows
-DX9/DX11 Character becoming a bunch of blue blobs and also invisible, like the black barrel error above, but in blue.

I have a high-end PC and also have extensive knowledge in trouble shooting video games, but this game is just unplayable in the state it is in.

My Specs:
i7 3770k @ 4.8 Ghz ASRock z77 Extreme 6
2x MSI HD7970s 3GB CF
16gb x G. Skill
Ripjaws Z 9-11-10-28 DDR3 PC2133 OCZ
Vertex 3 120GB SSD
2x Caviar Blue 1.0TB WD10EZEX Dekstar 1.5TB HDD
Corsair Fatal1ty 1000-Watt PSU
Corsair 800D case
Chrome Raystorm CPU block with Swiftair Komodo 7970 GPU blocks.

Here is a thread on the steam community forum for the game, that has over 100 other people with the exact same or similar issues for the game. If you check the forum, there are dozens of other threads with the exact same issues on just the first page of the forum.

http://steamcommunity.com/app/34870/discussions/0/864973123628730146/

I also mention there the different things that I tried, to fix the issue, but was un-successful.

-Updating all system drivers
-Ran windows update to ensure all distributabels are up to date
-Verifying game chache
-Un-installing/Re-installing
-Turning crossfire off
-Removing intro videos
-Put quality to low/medium/high/very high

Here is an example of the issue that many have in DX9 mode.

http://imgur.com/5LpFWN6
http://imgur.com/3hM1jNU
http://imgur.com/c4vbr50
http://imgur.com/OJtIToA

Then the issues in DX11, have to do with performance being hit EXTREMELY hard. I can maintain 130 fps in DX9 while testing to resolve issues with the “black barrel”. Then in DX11, with object detail set to anything above low, will give me the exact same performance, of dropping the frame rate to 40 fps. Does not matter if I use medium or very high. The performance hit is the same.

I would love to hear that you are trying to fix it or are aware of the issues and will have a fix coming soon. Otherwise, I am not able to get a refund from Steam, but instead would like a refund from you.

Thank you,
Gaming Rig

Yeah I got Sniper 2: Ghost Recon does not work, because it is unplayable, since half the screen is missing textures. No driver change helped, no change in graphical settings helped, not even reinstalling the game and from what I have seen many people have this issue. But to answer OP they won't refund...

Not saying its Steams fault but they could have at least done something for him. He's a disabled vet that lives on very limited income. When he explained that his situation it fell on deaf ears. He never owned a PC until I gave him one of my old units and had no clue that he had to D/L the games.

So all I'm saying is I think it was a real crappy way Steam handled the situation.

  • You being such a good friend should take his hard drive,. mount it on your PC and download the games on it for him!
  • If he is gaming on a laptop then he could also try a local coffee shop or free WiFi and slowly download the games one by one.

He could email the publishers of the games one by one with proof of his purchase from steam with a copy of his drivers license or id and they may mail him out a physical copy of the game.

You know I never even thought of having him contact the publishers. Thanks for the suggestion thumb.gif I'm on ATT DSL so it literally takes days to D/L games not to mention I have a 150 GB limit that I always get close to hitting.

To fix sniper ghost warrior 2 go into the steamapps>common>sgw2 look for the file called
"system"

Open it with notepad

Change the following: r_Driver=D11 or D10 or D9 depending on what level of direct x you chose to run the game on initial startup, choosing any different from original choice will cause black screen

r_Fullscreen=0
r_Width=1920
r_Height=1080

last two are the resolution you have set in the settings.

This fix helped me actually finish a multiplayer map, however, I got the black screen once the map ended and had to close and re-open game to play, but I actually got to play it.

Also if you dont want the game startup ads to play go to the game folder then _FastLoad and delete everything in there for a quicker startup especially if you have to continually restart the game.

Hope this helps!

You should just state the problem, solutions that you have tried that may have worked for other people, list your computer specs to show your computer is in fact compatible, then state that you would like a refund for the game purchased. If they will not refund you the game you could always try to get a steam coupon from them in exchange for the game not working properly and hope they come out with a fix for it soon.

Whatever you do don't get too mouthy, use foul language, or "yell" at them and you will have a better chance after a few exchanges and I'm sure you guys will work something out. When it comes to games not working usually that will lie on the publisher not steam and you can always try to shoot them an email too with a copy of your receipt from steam. Actually publishers are more likely to listen to you and work something out depending on the situation.

I did corporate and consumer escalations for a little over 4 years, with roughly 10 years in customer service and escalations. I would definitely recommend this. I was more willing to help someone that was respectful, even when angry. You can be angry and yell, as long as you're yelling about the situation and not at the employee for something they're not responsible for.

Now I'll give you guys a tip. When you're wanting to hit a company hard that is really causing problems, look up their executive team, and Google each of their names with political contributions. When someone contributes they put down an address and normally a number, not always, but normally. If they did not list a number go to the whitepages and do a reverse address search. If this does not yield something try again with the next board member. I can normally find an executives home information within a good 10-15 minutes due to this. When you call advise the rep in a respecful manner, that you would like to speak to a supervisor about the situation as you've got the contact information of one of their executives, name the executive of course. As long as you've been respectful and you're not making some crazy request they'll normally do what you want.

For example I contacted AT&T about an issue I had with one of their store representatives, I looked up their executives and received the home information of their Senior Executive Vice President of Executive Operations. I advised them I was going to contact him if nothing could be done as I was at the end of my rope with AT&T. They gave me $90 off my bill, waived my upgrade fee, gave me the HTC One 32GB Black Edition and the Beats Pill speaker for $65. Voila. thumb.gif

I dunno about getting a refund, if it is truly a large group of people with the problem they should give a refund on the games, but otherwise you pretty much get 1 shot at a refund, then after that prepare for a battle (as posted above).
This. All you have to do is DL the stuff somewhere else.
