I think you could cruise by on 8th. just remember that heavy multitasking loads will quickly use it up

You'd most likely be fine with an 8 GB kit. If you want a bit more longevity it may be worth the 2x8GB investment as you have a further upgrade down the road to 32 GB.

I like this advice. I think I will go ahead and do that! Thanks! thumb.gif

Just be aware RAM prices are quite high at the moment. I'd recommend planning for 8 and then adding 8 more in the future if you need it.

so far as speed and timings go, I wouldnt stress over it; just pick up a set of 1600 like this, and you should be good to go. I just chose that set as an example, but I wouldn't spend much more than that, and prices are in a bit of a rise recently.

16GB. When I'm running games I like to leave what I'm working on open and enough browser windows will eat up memory. Other applications in the background will eat up mem too. When I'm gaming like normal I'm at 12GB-14GB of utilization. 16GB is relatively cheap so don't short yourself.

Based on your usage description, spend money on speed, not capacity. 8GB 2400 9-11-11-31 Trident X will be MUCH better than anything at DDR3-1600.... Biggest difference in games is, paired with a CPU OC, a little to a lot higher min fps.
