sigh... silverstone knows how to build PSU... replacing the fan doesn't solve a noise problem. replacing the fan with a quieter fan will most likely blow up the PSU because you aren't supplying enough cooling air when it needs it. the PSU gets LOUD when its under load because it needs that much cooling under load. not because they want to save 20 cents on using a cheaper fan... replacing a 3000RPM fan with a 1200RPM fan will simply mean you just wasted the $ you spent on that PSU because you will be hearing that loud pop any second now.
Do not buy the bronze rated SilverStone SFX its horrible and loud
The gold rated SFX is just loud but at least its a good unit

Can you invert the SFX PSU mount so the 120mm fan is blow on it? If so, you could just remove the PSU housing (or just the 80mm fan) and rely on the 120mm fan to cool it.

The SFX PSU is mounted with the fan parallel to the motherboard, whereas a full size ATX PSU is mounted with the fan perpendicular to the motherboard:
The SFX PSU won't need to be inverted, the fan is facing out towards the side panel with the 240mm radiator mounts.
The air will be sucked in, through the radiator, and onto the motherboard/RAM/PSU. The SFX PSU will exhaust through the roof of the case, and I might install an 80 mm exhaust fan that pulls that hot air out the back

Based on the right-side location of the power plug, the fan is above the plug. The audible 80mm fan will sucking in air from the right side panel and out the top.
You might be able to get rid of the noisy 80mm fan... If you flip the mounting of the PSU so it relies on the 120mm radiator fan instead.

i doubt he'd get enough static pressure from 2nd hand airflow of the 120mm fan. to get enough airflow into the PSU from the 120mm fans he'd be using delta fans and that would be louder then the PSU fan in the 1st place

well, components packed inside a SFX PSU is pretty tight which means plenty of airflow resistance. which in terms translates to higher required static pressure to overcome those resistance to achieve the airflow needed to cool the components in question.
it's not the fins that you have to worry about. it's the capacitors, transformers, and heatsinks that are packed tightly in there that you have to worry about.
not trying to steal the thread or anything.. but what is the best performance/price power supply that would fit in the prodigy while keeping reasonably quiet. shilka recommended the sfx Silverstone gold which sounds great but I just want to make sure I haven't missed anything.

TBH I don't see any reason to take a SFX PSU if you're building in a Prodigy, especially if noise is a concern. With an ATX PSU you have the option for hybrid fan or even fanless models, and you can get higher wattage units for less than Silverstone's 450W.
Seasonic's X-Gold series go on sale at newegg pretty regularly for $70-$90 ish and offer hybrid mode (fanless until X temp/load). My 660XP's fan never even spins up with the load my sig rig puts on it (~300W in games).

Prodigy supports ATX, I suggest you go that route. You won't have to worry about noise when it comes to ATX power supplies, every single one I've owned (OCZ's and Corsair's) have all been un-noticeable.
ATX power supplies have more space separating transformers, capacitors, etc., as well as a 120mm fan to deliver more air.
The reason I asked about noise with SFX power supplies is because the components are packed together, and the fan is only 80mm. To dissipate the amount of heat, the 80mm fan will have to blow much harder than a 120mm fan of an ATX supply

Your build is pretty much like mine, I ordered my Ncase in Silver last week. I am also switching from a Prodogy and also own a Seidon 240 lol.
