Help, Games Freezing and Getting Artifacts

Thread Starter
I recently bought both Mirror's Edge and Borderlands GOTY edition on Steam. Both of them freeze on startup. The "Way it's meant to be played" and developer videos play just fine, but as soon as it has to render anything (the background of the menu), it freezes. It doesn't give me a "program is not responding" error or stop working. It just freezes and does nothing.

The freezing problem can be fixed by running in XP SP3 compatibility mode for Mirror's Edge, and by running as administrator for Borderlands. However, after entering the game, I am getting obscene numbers of what I think are artifacts (never had a problem with them before, so I'm just guessing that's what they are.) Once every second or so, almost every model in the game glitches and polygons jump around all over the place. I'm running on a 3570K, HD 7970, 8 GB of RAM, with nothing overclocked.

All other games work just fine. TF2, Bioshock, Skyrim, BF3, Portal, Gmod, you name it, it works. It's just these two games. I'm running the latest AMD drivers. Any ideas, anybody?

EDIT: I figured out what the problem was. Virtu MVP was messing things up. Disabled it and everything worked fine.

Try using older drivers and see if that works.
