Questions about pumps

I built my computer with my waterloop for a bit less than a year ago. It's one 2x120 rad (EK-CoolStream RAD XTX 240) and my cpu (i3930) and my gpu (gtx680) have blocks and I have a reservoir.

I built by computer to be silent while powerful, and I've generally been very happy with the noise-level. But now I have been out of the country for a few months and I think my pump has gotten a bit noisy since before I left.

I think (THINK) I have the K-DCP 4.0 Pump. I bought the EK-KIT H3O 240 HFX kit, plus a waterblock for the gpu, and I think that is what followed.

Now, I haven't cleaned it up and changed water since I built it. Yes I know, according to a lot of forums I should have done that already, but I've been out of the country for a few months and haven't quite got around to it yet.

Which leads me to my question which is in two parts:

-Do you think my pump has gotten noisier simply because the water have started to become unclean? Do you think it might become more silent when I change the water and clean it up?
-If not I have to buy a new pump. Any recommendation for a pump that is strong enough for my loop while being as silent as possible?

Thanks. Hope someone can help me!

Buildup in the blocks will increase resistance and put more strain on the pump. That will make it louder.

Did you use biocide or a silver coil? You should clean your loop either way.

I cannot remember and be 100% sure, but I think I have biocide in it. silver coil I do not have.

Will clean it today and hopefully that works. Doesn't really have money for a new pump now, and I should have cleaned it anyway. Hopefully that works. Thanks smile.gif

Another slightly related question; I have been toying with the thought of building myself a soundproof box to put the pump in. As I said I built my computer for silence, and the pump is basically the only sound that come from the computer. This way I could mostly eliminate all sounds from the computer. But I am worried that it may turn out to kill the pump to put it in a soundproof (and mostly airtight) box, that I may give the pump death by heat. Any thoughts on that? Anyone tried it before?
