x79 Motherboard help

Thread Starter
I was just recently lucky enough to be able to pick up a brand new 3960x for only $400 and now I am in a dilemma as to which motherboard I should get. I feel like from the few things I have read about the x79 boards over the past year or two is that the rampage iv extreme is the only x79 board worth a damn, and that the majority of x79 boards are pretty bad. Is that accuracte even if you aren't going ot be quad sling or LN2ing? I currently run 2 780's and use a h100i for cooling and I don't really want to change my cooling so is it really worth getting a rampage over something like the MSI g45 plus or the Gigabyte UD4? I would like to get something with a black PCB that isn't the Big Bang, or Assassin(not a fan of the looks on those boards). I definitely think the rampage looks nice and am willing to spend the money, but I also really like the two other boards I named and those are considerably cheaper, so if they aren't garbage then I don't see a reason to spend the extra $150-$170.

Personally I always go with the ASUS or Gigabyte Motherboards, I personally chose to go with the Rampage series and it is serving me quite well. You do not, however have to go with the Extreme portion, I picked up a Rampage Gene, due to me only going dual xfire and the board is able to keep a stable 5.0 Ghz @ 1.45v (max load 85C) though I run a 24/7 4.6 @ 1.325v (max load 65C) on my i7-3820 with a H70.

For the x79 boards, the Asus boards are really about the only ones worth getting IMO.  That is coming from somebody that never buys them.  The only other board I would consider would be the MSI Big Bang one, I've heard descent things about it, but personally don't like the whole machine gun heatsink thing.
