FX-4100 / 4170 / 4300 / 4350. Overclock any of them, and with a good motherboard and cooling, sky's the limit. Got my FX-4170 to 4.8Ghz comfortably, aiming for 5Ghz hopefully.

Otherwise, pick up a Phenom II X4 Black 955 / 965 if they're still around. Last gen, but very good CPU even to this day for its price, compatible with AM3+ motherboards. Take it to 4.0Ghz and you'll be good.

EDIT: If you can find an FX-6100 / 6300 for a good deal, for not much more than the FX-4xxx, that would be great!

The FX-6300 is the best deal for the money since its single thread performance will be the same as any other Piledriver based FX of higher or lower model, but you also get the most threads for your money. The lesser processors with only 4 threads have shown they dont usually clock any better than the higher priced processors because the quad cores are just badly failed 8 core's anyway that had two modules cut out.

Also the 4100 and 4170 would be a bad buy, you want a Vishera core not a Zambezi. The Vishera core's will also beat out the older Deneb cores very well too. At the same speed they are about equal in performance, but the Vishera will be able to clock much higher and thus wins by a lot.

Just to clarify, I believe I read somewhere that the Zambezi cores have higher OC potential than Vishera, even though Vishera is more efficient. In that sense, they even each other out in performance in my opinion. Also, now that Vishera's been around for a while, Zambezi CPU prices came crashing down. The last time I checked, the FX-4100 was going for $69 at MicroCenter!

Battlefield 3 and 4 are multi-threaded so you will have to worry more about your GPU, not your CPU for Battlefield.

That din't make sense. Multi-threaded would put more load on the cpu not gpu!

Multi-threaded games like Battlefield 3 are better for AMD CPUs because they can utilize all the cores on the CPU, single-threaded games like Planetside 2 only use 2 cores most of the time and AMD CPUs have poor sub-par single-threaded performance which is why Planetside 2 runs horribly for AMD CPUs.
