Windows doesn't detect hard drive

Thread Starter
I was using a ST31000528AS as a secondary storage. I had a power outage about a couple of days ago and after I turned my PC on and it was system was really slow. Now the hard drive is only detected by bios. SMART had Unreadable sector count and some other sector thingy as warning.

So I plugged it into an external casing so I could retreive files and it works partially. It detects 3/4 partitions but read/write is painfully slow. Whenever the drive has power it keeps reading something irrespective of whether sata is connected or not.
To transfer 100mb, it took like 35mins.

Is there anyway I can backup the data a bit quicker and perhaps fix the drive. I heard formatting it with 0s works somtimes. Would the freezer trick work?

You could try the freezer trick but it sounds like the drive is on its way out
