Yes if i put another HDD in, it works.

Something odd happened, my BU Rig won't get pass the Expanding Files. If i hook the Raptor up to my Main Rig, it works...what the? lol

Well, it could be that the HP mother board...or rather the hard drive controller...has trouble reading from this particular hard drive, but not writing to it or perhaps it is the combination of reading and writing which would be happening at that stage in the install. Sounds rather unlikely, but that is really the only explanation that makes any sense from your description. Something I've never seen or heard of before, but that certainly doesn't mean it can't happen. I've seen some crazy, stupid things happen with OEM mother boards though.

Now to make it worse my Only other Back Up 160GB HDD (Seagate), just a regular drive, now it won't get past the Expanding Files. What is happening??

Open up the system and inspect the motherboard visually. Look for capacitors that are bulging on top or have anything leaking out the top. If you have any "puffy caps" then your board is toast. It may work to a degree but will not be reliable enough for general use.
Also, you can install HDTune and check the SMART data and do an error scan on that drive, just to be sure it is ok. Or WD Data Lifeguard.

Well the Mobo is over 6 yrs old.

The HDD's check out fine. The HDD that is fine but the closest to fail is the one that works lol ( 320GB Seagate) I have Refurbed the 320 though with Zero Formatting and Re loading, so it's better. But the 2 drives i bought to replace it won't work on the Mobo frown.gif

I will have a look at the Mobo. i hope it's ok, cuz another Mobo is like $40-$75. I would just get a New Mobo, but the HP case only fits that Mobo.

Thanks

Is there a particular reason your running a 105w CPU on a system board designed to support 95w or less 775 CPUs?

That funky power connector that prevents you from changing the system board can only handle about 120w (about 150w short burst). That's 120w for the video card, chip-set, memory, and if you have the V2 the hard drives as well.

Otherwise the chassis is a standard µATX and can be upgraded (power supply would need to be changed as well).

When you pushing the board beyond its design limits you should put heat sinks on the voltage regulation ICs and turn off the power management in the BIOS.

With the system being pushed that hard the it will also be very sensitive to transient voltage. Recommend a isolated surge suppressor or a good UPS.

Older HDD like the 160 and Raptor will be a source of transient voltage noise. The 320 is probably a 7200.11 or 5400 RPM drive, they are one of the quietest (electrical noise wise) of Seagate drives.

To quote HP here is a list of CPU's your PC will accept:
"
Intel Celeron D processors
331, 256K cache, 2.66 GHz, 533 MHz FSB
336, 256K cache, 2.8 GHz, 533 MHz FSB
347, 512K cache, 3.06 GHz, 533 MHz FSB
352, 512K cache, 3.2 GHz, 533 MHz FSB
356HE, 512K cache, 3.33 GHz, 533 MHz FSB
356, 512K cache, 3.33 GHz, 533 MHz FSB
360, 512K cache, 3.46 GHz, 533 MHz FSB
Intel Pentium 4 HT processors

Thanks for the informative post, i learned a bit their.

Well the reason i am running a Q6600 G0 (95W) at Stock is cuz some of the MSI/HP Mobo's can take them since it's only 1066Mhz FSB. So i upgraded from a E6700 to a Q6600, Gamed it, Folded it, yeah.

This started with trying to Install Windows 7 on the Raptor, so i see what your saying, except the System shouldn't of been at Full Tilt 100% just installing the OS, so it shouldn't be close to the Limit, correct me if i'm wrong.

I do have 4GB 667Mhz RAM, a Q6600 G0 (95W) and I added a 500W Corsair PSU to handle the load. The HDD are powered off the Corsair, and so is the DVD Drive and GPU/CPU. So i am still confused.

Again like i said, you might be onto something. I could use any help.

**Just tried Linux Unbuntu 12.04, it froze on the Options list before i could hit the Install button.**

It seems like after 1-3 Mins it freezes. Except when i Cleared CMOS, put some old RAM in and re-tried to install OS, it cleared the Expanding but Froze on Updates, then after restart it started up freezing at the Expanding and then on Linux. i am lost for words.

So again this whole mess started when i installed the Raptor and then tried to install Win 7. Strange thing though, even after the Raptor failed, my older 320GB Seagate with Win 7 still booted, but that was before i Re-Formatted her, now she won't install Win either. frown.gif

You obviously have a hardware failure. Sounds like motherboard, because a. it is an older HP, and b. you've swapped ram and tried multiple drives.
Have you visually inspected the board for puffy caps?

That's what its looking like, and i am sad, this HP was my First Real Gaming rig since it had a x16 port back in the day and CPU Dual/Quad support.

No puffy CAPS, they all look fine. No burn marks either. Any clues?
