6300*DDR2 800 how high will it go OCing RAM?

Thread Starter
My friend is gonna buy a new system with a 6300 and he wants to OC it to 3.0 GHZ.. will setting a DDR2800 1:1 with the cpu (533) and upping the fsb give him 3ghz without OCing his ram. we need to decide if he needs D9s for good ocing or just a decent memory stick no need for ocing.

E6300s run at 266 MHz x7=1.86 GHz. DDR2-800 runs at 400 MHz at stock. In order to OC the RAM even minimally, it would have to run at 401 MHz, which would produce a CPU speed of 2.8 GHz. In order to get to 3.0 GHz, the RAM would need to run at 429 MHz (3000/7). Even halfway decent DDR2-800 should be able to OC 30 MHz, so there's not much of a need to invest in the real high end RAM unless your friend is looking for extremely tight timings.

Most good DDR2 800 will exceed its rated freq. I just increased the ram voltage from 1.8 to 2.1 volts and I'm running perfectly stable at FSB of 502. I also loosened the timings to 5,5,5,15
