[Noob WCer] Fan advice needed.

Hey all,

Thanks in advance for any help and advice offered thumb.gif

Firstly, id just like to say ive never watercooled before, but I am assembling a loop in a TJ07 as my first WC build.

The Rads are as follows;
- UT60 480 rad in the base.
- EK RadXT 240 mounted to a custom faceplate in the drive bays.

I realise that this is 240 worth of rad space per block, but I am after a really quite rig with low speed fans.

I plan to have a decently overclocked 2600k and 2x 580 3gb's with decent overclocks also in the loop.

My plan was to have two AP123's mounted to the RadXT at the front of the case for show and cooling, but after reading a few reviews, they dont rank high on the performance scale. :/

I was then thinking that I could go with some AP-13's and custom paint them a similar colour to the AP-123's, is painting the fans going to hurt sound characteristics of the fans? Is this a good fan to use? I picked it due to the 1150rpm variable. Am I able to go an even slower and quieter AP-11, or would I be better served to just get AP-15's and limit them with a controller?

For the 480 I was planning to run 4x Spectre Pro's or 4x gelid wing uv blue, running at around 1200rpm, which would be the better pick out of these two fans? Mainly after a silent rig, but I also want the "show" as well?

How will these fans go with being controlled by a fan controller? I have heard that some fans get weird noises, or even become louder if they aren't operating at max rpm, as that is what they are designed and manufactured for.

Any links to reviews to go with your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Rep+ to those that can help me with their wealth of knowledge.

Cheers,
Ishi

I would say the Gelid Wings because their static pressure is better than the Bitfenix Spectre Pro. According to Bitfenix's Web its mmH20 is 1.24 compared to the higher Gelid Wings at 2.66. I am just basing my facts over statistics. But I would prefer the Noctua NF-P12 to because of personal preference and how quiet it is.

Here are the links for each of the fans.
Gelid Wings

Spectre Pros

I hoped i helped! thumb.gif

Thanks mate, i did notice that, but reading up on Martinsliquidlab.com about static pressure, i just wish i had a P/Q curve for all fans involved.

All help is appreciated though! thumb.gif

if you looking for very silence fan with the best performance go with the kaze-jyuni slipstream 800 RPM 120
This is the only fan make 40.17CFM and runs at a super quite 10.70 dBA.
i also have to test a cougar CF-V12HPB today and i will let u know later some temperature on my Rad 360 and how quite they are.

I looked up a slipstream review, and they said they aren't the best fans for rad's, as they don't have the backpressure.

I think I might go with the Gelid Wing 12 UV's and get a nice look happening.

I have more then enough rad to compensate if the fans are sub-par.

Cheers.

My temp in idle are 34 C and gpu 30 C with the fan running at 600 rpm.
When gaming max temp CPU 42 C and Gpu 34C without any fan cooling the chassis.
You cant here them and they push a lot of air.
I have xspc rx rad 360 .
Hope this helps

Nice mate, perhaps they used a high fpi rad that wasnt suited for slower fans.

Glad to hear your setup works well thumb.gif
