For example, if one gets now an 7970 x 2 will they have a problem?

Issues with both sides, sli and crossfire.

Supposed to be some fixed crossfire drivers at the end of the month by AMD, we'll see what happens.

I wouldn't say it out loud. I sold my old GTX680 SLI because I got tired of their drivers for SLI, moved to 2x HD7970 and I am much happier. thumb.gif

I hate to be that guy, but you are the only person I have ever heard say that. can you explain, because I'm a potential buyer of a second 7970 but was thinking of going to the green team.

If you're talking about micro-stutter, yes, it's real. It varies from game to game: in some games with CF, 40FPS feels more like 25. In others, it works just fine.

See http://techreport.com/review/24553/inside-the-second-with-nvidia-frame-capture-tools/9

But RadeonPro fixes most micro-stutter issues I've run into. Nvidia's used hardware frame buffering for awhile, which means the problem isn't as bad.

But it DOESNT fix driver support. Alot of games have terrible crossfire/SLI support at launch, some just never really work right. But SLI and Crossfire both have this issue.

EDIT:

Haven't done SLI myself, but Nvidia and AMD have their fair share of multi-card disasters. Skyrim, for example, was a disaster for my 6850s at launch, and I've heard people with SLI complain about the various bioshock games.

It's not about SLI vs. CF, it's mostly about single vs. multi cards.

i think i like SLi more however, AMD is supposed to be dropping some good drivers to fix a heap of issues. IMHO even as an nvidia fan boi i am jealous as AMD seems to drop better drivers with great performance increases and lots of fixes.

I say get them and call it a day. how can you go wrong with having cards like that..

That mostly happened with the 6xxx series, when CF was scaling inexplicably well compared to Fermi.

And ya. If 1 or 2 7970s can't run your game, you're doing it wrong tongue.gif
