First Build, Gaming

Thread Starter
I planning on building my first pc with primarily gaming in mind. I've been playing a lot of borderlands 2 lately, but I plan on playing Far Cry 3, Metro Last Light and others, and I want them to run comfortably or well. I will also consider overclocking in the near future.

These are my parts so far:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1hK2Z

I need help choosing between an i5-haswell with this mobo

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131981

or

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157369

I would appreciate any input on these mobo or a similarly priced combination of an i5-ivy bridge build, or if you think an amd fx8320 would better suit my needs.
Thanks for the help, and i have access to Micro Center.

Are you getting the 4670k?

As for the motherboards i would get the asus.

The MSI Z87 G45 is also worth a look.

Yeah, the 4670k most likely.

I would go with the asrock as it has more pci lanes and more sata ports.

If you have access to a Microcenter - do they still have deals on the 3570K or 3770K? If so, I would save some money by grabbing one of those (which has basically identical performance to the Haswell chip) and then put the money you saved in a GTX 660Ti or GTX 760 instead of the GTX 660.

Also, look into a newer SSD like the Samsung 840 - unless you are getting a really good deal on the M4 (and the link you posted isn't) you can do better. A 120/128GB SSD is easy to find under $100.

I'd also get the Capstone modular PSU over the Hive. The 450W modular is the same $69 (450W is plenty for what you have picked out), and the non-modular is only $59:

You can also grab this G.Skill DDR3-1866 for only $65 after promo code:

My budget is around $700 I already have windows and a case, and there is a little room for the mobo and cpu, but thats it. I've already purchased the items I have listed on the pcpartpicker link including the 660, and I get that it won't run 1080p max, thats fine for right now. But I'm just concerned with the mobo for build. I want something that has good stability and a good probability that it won't be doa.

Really ASUS? Asus has RMA problems now and the boards seem to have problems.
Anything below 55 for MSI sucks

660? Buy the 7950 or 760 please. (7950 for more OC'ing headroom)
Or if you really can't squeeze a bit more bucks this one then http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202025

The Gigabyte Z87X-D3H has even better VRMs than both.

Have you ever read any of the reviews of these motherboards?

All i was going by was the many reviews i have read on z87 motherboards. The asus board has very good reputation.

Thats a terrible assumption to make about msi. The z87 g45 is also a good motherboard

You cant judge rma just because someone says they are bad. Some people have bad experiances and others dont. The bad experiences are often by people who try to return products that have clearly been damaged by the person and then complain asus are unfair.
