In 11 years the first AMD gpus I've had any sort of driver issue with were my 7950 and 7870 hawk. Had the grey/black vertical line thing with the 7950. Updated the driver to 12.8 (I think) and the issue went away. The 7870 had a period where it would jump between 64% and 100% gpu usage. Disable ULPS did nothing and this was happening on many different 7870 models with reports on many different forums. Driver update took care of that too. That's all I've experienced and I've had 6870 crossfire, 6950 flashed, 6870 crossfire, 4890, 4670, X800 GTO, 9700, and a radeon 9250 which is and was always a turd of a gpu (but no driver issues). I've had many more issues on the green side including crashing/unstable drivers, couldn't uninstall drivers, and almost half the nv cards I've owned have died early under normal use
. This right up until last summer with a 560ti 448 and a gtx670 DCII (had amd cards since until I got my 780). TL:DR, the internet's most popular ravings aren't always going to line up with reality. Try for yourself and find out is all you can do.
