Need advice on this rig for planetside 2 and mmos

Thread Starter
i have a friend/client who needs a rig that can play Planetside 2 and MMOs in general well online........we are trying to save money.....i believe his rig could be ocd/modified to run at least in the 30-60 range well im hoping to get him at least 50-60s

now keep in mind this is an older rig.....i built it for him a few years for him.....

EP45-UD3P
E7500
6870
4gb ram

im thinking of upgrading his ram to 8gb (i believe planetside 2 is a min.)

Also i have an extra thermaltake ultra extreme to overclock it with (he is running at stock)

slight oc on the 6870

and last resort (if needed) is to replace his cpu with an extra one i got which is an E8400 which will do at least 4.0ghz proven use

he just wants his mmos games to run at around "he said" 30-60 but would love to be (for me) at least 45-55 fps

Whatcha think and please dont suggest to get a new socket or rig kinda hoping to build on what we got

I would like to help but I am not an expert but you can upgrade his CPU to a cheap AMD FX 6 cores will do the job.

For planetside 2 and mmos? The CPU is probably gonna your best bet. Quoting your saying of "please dont suggest to get a new socket or rig kinda hoping to build on what we got", I honestly dont know what else to suggest if this is your ultimatum. If you would like to consider, replacing that core 2 duo with a secondhand i5 2500k would probably do the job. Its a big jump from the E7500 but won't be as powerful as most of today's offerings

The min requirements say that planetside 2 will work on a E6800 and I think a 4680 amd gpu

I'm going to do my suggested I'm going max the oc on this chip (E7500) to at least 4ghz I hear they oc well and upgrade the ram to 8gb and oc the 6870 a little........

I will report my findings to u guys I hav a feeling this will get it to mid to high settings with decent frames.....

Not to be an asset but you really stating the obvious of course an i5 anything be better....thumb.gif

People told me for years to get new rig....I ran my oced q9550 tilling upgraded a few months ago and yes there was a good different. In performance but that rig still played current generation games very well ..

In looking back at it I feel I did the right thing by not upgrading every year and spend lots of money...

I don't know how well that CPU will do on PS2 as it's a very CPU intensive game (also poorly optimized). If you don't want to get a new socket then I guess getting an E8400 would be an alright choice. The one I had overclocked like crazy. But to me 5 years sounds like a justifiable reason to upgrade (just my 2cents.gif)
