Well in my experience ... Not so much. Had a 120mm single tower with direct touch heatpipes on my L5520 and it performed much worse (WITH STOCK FAN + 2000RPM WFB1212M DELTA ON FULL!) than my neptwin which is supposed to be ... worse. Because of low heat dissipation this often doesn't happen
All i needed is 1100rpm on these AFBs and there i had it ... 10C better temps. And not even @ full or 2500rpm or 80CFM/6.25mmH2O Still the AFB1212H is a bit uncalled for but hell, cheapest PWM fan i could get. Only 2 bucks each tongue.gif
Would have made great rad fans but it clicks ... violently. With fan controllers. Granted if i was only running 4 from 1 PWM socket i wouldn't have any problems but still ...

What 120mm single cooler?
Why is Neptwin supposed to be worse?

Deepcool Ice Blade GS, not a small heatsink by any means
At low heat loads direct contact is supposed to be better wink.gif

I don't think it matter if pipes are in a copper heat block like most good coolers.

We're discussing direct touch pipes not heatpipe-on-copper base

Gees Dave.. This is Revro's thread!. rolleyes.gif

If direct contact was better than why are almost all of the top coolers solid block? Alpenfohn, BeQuiet!, Noctua, Phanteks, Prolimatech, Scythe, Silverstone, Thermalright, Xigmatek, Zalman, etc.

I was saying LOW HEAT NOT HIGH HEAT lol tongue.gif
High heat output the solid block ones will clearly eat the direct contact ones for lunch
