upgrade time! Can't decide which way to go.

Its well overdue and i have to upgrade the cpu and motherboard in my sig.
I'm pretty sure i want to go AMD this time though i could be convinced otherwise, also I need a motherboardboard thats crossfire capable.
If anyone wants to suggest something please go ahead and share your thoughts, I'll be using the system for video transcoding and gaming.
I have a budget between 400-500 AUD.
Thanks in advance....

I wouldn't go AMD personally with the woeful performance they are getting...
I saw benchmarks showing the new 5Ghz chip they have getting beaten by a 2600k!

If your budget is 500 for just the CPU and MOBO and RAM then I would get something like this.

$239.00 - Intel Core i5 3570

$119 - ASRock Z77 Extreme4

$95 - Corsair Vengeance Pro Black 2x 4GB

You can use two GPU's in CrossFire or SLI on PCI-E 3.0 16x

Total comes to $453AUD + $29.56 Express Shipping

Grand Total $482.56

For gaming, there are a lot of times an overclocked FX-8350 (which is all that 5 GHz AMD chip is) will lose to a 2600K. Intel is usually better for gaming because of better single-core performance.

However, OP also said he wanted to do video transcoding. The 8350 will be the better choice for that, and it's cheaper than an i5.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I ended up buying an 8350, Asus sabertooth 990fx R2 and a hyper 212x to put it all under.
The rest of the parts came from my old rig which I'll upgrade as money permits.
Anyway you are right mate the 8350 is an absolute monster for transcoding. thumb.gif
