7 Segment display Assignment

Hi, i'm new to this forum so I hope this is in the right place and that someone will be able to help me.

I'm currently working through an assignment based on the 7 segment display. I am not asking for answers, I would like my work to be checked and help given on the areas I don't understand as I really need a high mark on this assignment.

Also for Q3 could somebody check my formula. I know the lecturer wants us to implement De Morgan's theorem twice to achieve a formula for only NAND gates. This is what I have

Fa=A+BC’+BD’+C’D’
Fa’ = (A’ (B’C)’ (B’D)’ (C’D’)’ - De Morgan’s theorem implemented once
Fa’’= F = ((A’ (B’C)’ (B’D)’ (C’D’)’)’ -De Morgan’s theorem implemented twice

I cant really help for Q2 or 3 since I have no clue what those are but for Q1 it looks like its correct. Seems like you have all the instances F would need to be on to display a number. Sorry I couldnt help more.

Are don't care for inputs 10-15 acceptable? When I took this kind of class, these would not have been considered don't care. When the device starts up, the setting of the input is random. These spurious states are possible, but it's bad design to output them to the user. They should be zeroes instead.

 

For the NOR assignment, you want the output in POS (product of sums) form rather than SOP (sum of products) as the POS form allows you to "drop in" the NOR gates.

 

To do this:

write out your K-map

circle the 0's ----- NOT THE 1's (we are after the MAXterms)

write the 0's in SOP form

use DeMorgans to convert to POS

implement this into a set of OR gates that AND together

Convert all the OR and AND gates to NOR

go for coffee

 

That said, I can't correct your work if it's incorrect. The point of the assignment is to force you to think through the problem and triple-check your solution.
