SLI, 3 monitors, no surround - Page 2

When I had SLI 470's I wanted to do the same thing. I think I came to the conclusion that you needed 3 cards.

SLI for the one monitor then a 3rd card to power the other monitors.

I actually have the exact setup OP is trying to get, but would like mine to be a bit different. Although

I have 2 GTX 66's with 3-32' Monitors. All monitors are plugged into one card.

I have SLI enabled, which Phys X dedicated to the CPU (which is annoying I have to do that). Seems to be what OP is asking for, but could be wrong.

What I want is SLI when I'm not gaming, and to be able to switch to surround when gaming. I tried doing it with Windows Key + P, but once I get back to extended desktop the SLI is disabled and vice versa. And there should be a way to use SLI/Surround at the same time and break up the work load over the 2 cards!! ***FF

Any thoughts?

I think the only way is to just do it manually, which is a pain. Surround leaves much to be desired...

When i had SLI (2 GTX 580) i never could get all 3 of my screens to work and stay in SLI mode.... i read something that nvidia when doing SLI requires you to have 1 monitor per card, even though each card alone can support 4. The only way i was able to fix it was to buy a 9400Gt for $10 and i ran the 3rd monitor off that.

So happy my 7990 i have now supports 5 monitors with crossfire enabled and i can still easily go into eyefinity with the 3 23" ones i have and i have 2 extras for browsers and IRC/Skype.

Guys,

I posted a huge thread about this a couple months ago.

Long story short: I though the exact same thing as a few of you above - Nope can't be done. All the things on the net say the same thing.

All i wanted was SLI enabled and 3 monitors enabled, but no Surround.

it IS about how you plug them in. It WILL work, I can screenshot/take a picture of it working.

This setup worked for me in the end (I literally trial and errored everything to get this)... Try plugging in ALL monitors into your TOP (Primary) GPU.

The ONLY way you can get non surround, 3 monitors enabled, but SLI also enabled - Is to have all monitors connected to your primary GPU. If you don't have the ports/cables to suit - You can't do it. For me this is 2x DVI + 1x HDMI all into top GPU. I have to manually move one of the 2nd DVI's to the second GPU if I want to go back into Surround though (annoying).

yep, Nvidia requires you to plug them all into the primary GPU which is kinda lame since it only supports 4 tops (if your doing 6xx or higher cards) when i was trying to do 4 monitors on nvidia i was using 580's and they only support 2 monitors per card even though they had 2 DVI and 1 MINI HDMI port.

That sucks because I have 3 144Hz monitors that need DVI-D. There's only two of such ports on a 780... Poorly done by nvidia.

Yep.

Only other way, is to run an accessory graphics card (A third GPU that is not connected via SLI).

A lot of things I would change about Surround TBH but it's still a long shot better than XFIRE so who's complaining biggrin.gif
