Prime95 and 3930K "Temps"

Hi

I don't know if it's an issue or not but when testing my 3930K with prime95 " overclocked to 4.8GHz" with Small FFTs with 10 minutes to run FFT on my CPUz the frequency starts as 4.8 for a while and then it fluctuates between 3.2 and 4.8 every while, is it normal or if there is something wrong with my OC??

Also I 'm running it on a Rampage IV Extreme with a costume water cooling loop "EK Supremacy Nickle" + XSPC 240 RX and 120 EX Rads all with push/pull configurations + D5 Vario pump set to 5 - Ambient temps with AC is 25C and voltage is 1.424v and trying to lower it down my temps are between 70's and the max core is closer to 80C, these temps are normal or there is something wrong with my loop??

thnx

80C is a bit high, it may be the CPU throttling to cool down. Or it could be something to do with turbo boost.

thanks, what can I check??

VRMs on the board are throttling your cpu. The voltage is making things hot in that area.

Three things you could do is, lower voltage to 1.4v and under, Stick a fan in the VRM area to keep it cool, and disable "VRM Over Temperature Protection in the bios.

It's under DIGI+ Power Control

Keep the circled area cool to prevent cpu throttling. This area control controls and gives voltage to your cpu.

The 3930k runs hot when approaching the 5Hz mark. If your cores are reaching 80c then your "cpu' temp must be over 80c, which is above it thermal limit. Sounds like it throttling due to heat.

I had to back mine down to 4.6Ghz to keep reasonable temps.

I would suggest you lower your OC and place a fan to cool your heat sinks above the CPU. I found this helped as well. Try this before pulling your loop apart. smile.gif

There was some posts about this a while ago... Ill see if I can find them.

Addit: haha... Ive been ninj'ed by MrTOOSHORT.. nice call smile.gif
