Boot issues when overclocking I5 4670k past 4.2ghz

Thread Starter
I tried overclocking my i5 4670k at 4.4 ghz at 1.2 volts. When I get into Windows, the system is stable and it passes stress tests. The only problem I get is that when I turn on my pc after it had been disconnected from the power for more than 2 minutes (I'm using a power strip with a power button), it turns on for a brief moment and I can hear fan spinning and leds appearing, then it shuts off and turns on again and goes normally to Windows. When the computer is off but the power strip's button is on, this issue doesn't come up.
I tried experimenting a bit with the multiplier and the voltage: the results are that until 4.2 ghz there are no boot issues, when I try 4.3 the problem appears, even if I try to up the voltage until 1.25v. Temperatures are in the norm and I'm using a manual (fixed) voltage.
My specs:
  • CPU: Intel i5 4670k
  • CPU cooler: Hyper 212 evo
  • Motherboard: Asus ROG Maximus VI Hero
  • PSU: Corsair HX650
Any advice? Thanks in advance!

Mains power supplies power to the BIOS chip even when the computer is off.

So, when you shut off the power strip you're shutting off power to the BIOS chip.

Check/replace your BIOS battery.
