I think its more that their RMA sucks than their actual products. Next gpu of mine will be EVGA most likely

Agreed. MSI makes some great stuff. Their support is just awful.

It's up to the consumer to decide if their good products are worth poor support.

I wouldn't call the company as a whole or their products bad. EVGA for instance makes terrible products but has good support. I wouldn't argue they're a bad company, but personally I certainly will never buy from them.

MSI RMA is absolutely atrocious. I had a 680 Lightning that died randomly. It took 2 weeks to start the RMA for it because their stupid website wouldn't accept my serial number as an existing product, and they always just put me on hold for 10 min and then hung up when I called on the phone.

A user here on OCN who has contacts in MSI had to forward my case to them, at which point I got a RMA Approval in my email. They then sent me 2 DOA 680 Lightnings, before sending me back my original one that I sent them, without even testing it because it still had the same problem and even the same thermal paste/pads that I had put on it before shipping it back to them!

One of the two cards they sent me before that actually had a broken fan, bent fins on the cooler, scratches all over the backplate and cooler, and some sticky stuff all over it.

Finally the 4th card after starting the RMA process worked, however it worked only in one of my 3 systems. Turns out they put flashed both the "normal" and the "LN2" BIOS's with some kind of horribly gimped version that outright refuses to boot on mobos without UEFI or something. After manually flashing it the BIOS back to what I had on my original card, it is finally now working again in the intended system.

Total turnaround from broken card to getting a new one working - nearly 3 months. On the up side, the new card clocks better.
Yikes.

I've done more RMAs with MSI than any other company over the years and I've never really had an issue.

The worst I've had happen was when I RMA'd a 460 Hawk and got a refurb with a faulty power sensor that beeped under load. They sent a replacement promptly though. Maybe I've been lucky.

Yep, I don't mind. I'd rather have a card thats a little more expensive but with the peace of mind that it'll be covered by a warranty which doesn't suck

MSI is bad. I RMA'ed my previous motherboard and they sent it right back for some BS reason. mad.gif

i hope people who are early adopters of the 780 lightning dont have to rma their card with msi, it would suck to have to rma a (hopefully) badass card only to be told they have such little stock of them they cant replace it or anything like that lol

Reminds me of my experience with Asus when rma'ing my 5850. They sent me back my original card twice un repaired. I honestly thing they lied through their teeth when they claimed it was fixed. I saw no signs of new solder or anything. It had the exact same issue both times. It was only by the third RMA they replaced with a brand new old stock unit. I could tell it was new as it had that sheen to it. No dust or anything. That one worked like a charm and actually overclocked much better than my previous one.

I just don't get why companies put so little effort into their rma process. I mean, its just costing them money having to pay for shipping and then they have to pay their employees to look at it. Do it right the first time and there would be no issues.

Meh. I have had two bad experiences with MSI's RMA service.

Their Lightning GPU's are freaking awesome but their support and customer service is just... ugh. Just be wary.
