[Bulldozer] FSB OC'ing, what am I missing? - Page 2

Increasing the FSB will increase the
CPU NB,
HT
and memory clock as it is the reference for all of these. It is pointless pushing NB on the vishera above 2200 it isnt stable and will requires lots of volts to do so. Mine would pass prime 95 than cause video issues. flashplayer stutters etc. so i leave it around 2200 on stock volts. Ht at 2600 is fine stock for vishera. I think having a higher fsb and lower multi might reduce distortion in the waveform in cpu hence the less volts required.

That's good and all... but is there any explanation as to why my 4.8Ghz OC on my FX-4170 was causing my Sapphire 6850 to artifact?

And its only in specific games... so far, Crysis 2 has frozen on me once. In Tomb Raider, the screen "broke", as in as if the entire display shifted to the left, showing a margin of the right side of the image on the left portion of my screen. PlanetSide 2 and Battlefield 3 exhibit the same problem: gradual horizontal tearing across the screen that gradually gets worse, looks like static.

Lowered my OC to 4.5Ghz and no problems. Even stressed tested my GPU with Furmark at slightly higher than my supposedly stable clocks... and nothing goes wrong!

Not so sure about that, mine is at 2420 from the 10% OC and no problems. Although that might have something to do with why I have been having a bit of trouble getting past 220 on the FSB.

RE NB,
All the graphics issues i hd where related to overclocked NB. Even with cpunb at 1.35 V i would have issues. ie
Main screen loose sync on boot. Turn mon off on would fix.
Stuttering in flashplayer.
Trains 2012 main menu loss of sync
Funny thing is FSX which hates any instability would run fine.
With NB above 2200, not sure exact when it fails, it would boot fine one boot than the next it would do the above things. Its currently at 2230, using 223 FSB and 20.5 multi on cpu stable at 4.57. might take it up one notch this morning.

Yes I also seem to have problems when NB is overclocked. The computer especially seems to hate anything over 2600. Had no problems with 2500 so far. I think the Northbridge was indeed the culprit behind my graphics card. For the time being, I'm definitely sticking to multi only until I can figure out how to use the FSB as well... thank God for unlocked multipliers, especially for beginners like myself.

I reset BIOS to defaults. Only OC'd the GPU... and all is good! 20 minutes of OCCT on the 6850 with no errors detected. 1 hour of Battlefield 3 and all is good. Was thinking it might be a heat related issue... but OCCT was maxing out the temps at 75C and still no problems. Battlefield 3 lol only 55C max...

Sorry for getting the topic side-tracked here, get really nervous after having the graphical artifacts.
