Any advice on buying new memory or buy new AMD motherboard?

Hey everyone I needed advice on some things. I recently starting having some memory problems and it end up one of my memory went bad. I thought it was a game related or other hardware or windows problems but it end up being one of my corsair dominator 1066 ddr2 went bad. All three of my sticks are working. I did try to take it back for a lifetime warranty but they end up giving me something different and they don't have any in stock and no longer carry this type of rams. My memory is a corsair dominator 1066 ddr2 ver 2.2 I can't find any kit at 4 GB kit that related to the ones that I have so I thought why not upgrade my rams.

But all I have is about 400 bucks

So I wanted to get 16 GB of that are DDR2 so I found the cheapest that I can find and they are very hard and rare to find. They very expensive. So I found this http://www.amazon.com/2X4GB-Memory-800MHz-PC2-6400-Desktop/dp/tech-data/B008GVZLDQ/ref=de_a_smtd

and get two of this memory cooler http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Aluminium-Heatsink-Cooler-Heat-Spreader-w-Copper-Heatpipe-For-PC-Computer-DDR-RAM-Memory-Cooling/220267_802448160.html

And the price end up being 390 bucks I would like to find 1066DDR2 but can't seam to find any at 2x8GB and get two kit.

Then I started to look into getting a new motherboard i found this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131969
and then get some two of the kit of DDR3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148554

So it end up being at 390 bucks with shipping.

I really don't want to start a new motherboard. I really love my Foxconn destroyer I did a lot of mods of making cooler with a thermalright heatsink chipset cooler. I did added two a aluminum plate, one for the mosfet and one for the both of the north and south nvidia chipset. I have two thermalright chipset cooler on the nvidia chips and one on the mosfet. I hate to see this motherboard go or knowing that I won't able to sell it. My build is on the bottom of my post..

Question is is it worth building new motherboard for the same price and get all new tech such as PCIe 3.0 and SATA3 and still able to connect both of my 480GTX in SLI mode? Or end up getting new rams for this motherboard? Or should I get different 1066 memory of 8GB and save cash? I don't know I am really confused at this point.

I did thought about getting this memory http://www.amazon.com/GeIL-Dragon-PC2-8500-5-5-5-15-Channel/dp/B0016CV3LG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1374207628&sr=8-1&keywords=geil+black+dragon and get that ttp://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Aluminium-Heatsink-Cooler-Heat-Spreader-w-Copper-Heatpipe-For-PC-Computer-DDR-RAM-Memory-Cooling/220267_802448160.html for ram cooling.

I am out of options lol... I would like to see what you guys would do..wink.gif

depends on how much you really want to spend I guess. you have to consider the fact that your next upgrade may be using DDR3, but definitely not DDR2. is it really worth it to drop $390 on DDR2? and second, do you really NEED 16GB?

less expensive way would be to just get a kit of this with the black heatsinks, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231246 or this one with the lower heatsink http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166 and call it a day. if you really want 16GB, buy 2 kits. $70-$140 bucks, and done.

more expensive way is to get the new motherboard and ddr3 memory.

I would definitely not spend $300+ for DDR2.
If you have to have 16GB of RAM, which I guess cannot be for gaming (cause you don't).

If it was for gaming, I would bare for as long as possible with w/e you have left - 4GB I guess - and wait till I would feel comfortable for getting a complete system upgrade.

If you have to have 8GB or more, I would say for $400 or so it is definitely better to go to a new board with DDR3.
If it is just for gaming, I would stick with 8GB. I would also probably get something less edgy than the Sabretoot, to save some money for a future CPU or GPU upgrade. Yes, you have $400, you don't need to spend all of it right now thumb.gif

Right on guys. Yes I have to have 8 GB or more for gaming alt and tabing out seam to be real slow loading screen at 4 GB. At single channel at 6 GB seam even more slow at loading windows and other task ect. but have little more room and all of the loading is done finished and already loaded into memory and doesn't have to load other task. Photoshop at a larger scale and plus all the encoding HiDef video take it dry. I can tell it is trying to dump all the data in one place to another and does nothing but loading acting like computer is in a lag state. Sooner or later I need a SSD that makes it a lot simple beside having more rams. That away it will load data a lot quicker from doing task between in other area of programs. You are right pcfoo I just need to save some money and get ready for newer computer. But I love this little girl lol. biggrin.gif Trying to save up other cash for a SSD and raid it. I had a lot of experiences with AMD motherboard I hate it. I really hate AMD chipset with ATI south bridge. But that was from the 6**/ 7** chipset days. So I have no idea what is like having 990FX just scared of moving to another system with all the trouble and now they have better faster memory are out and larger. But thanks guys for take your times and explaining your area thumb.gif I didn't even see 1066 on newegg. To bad they are all in 2 GB sticks frown.gif I might have to get memory 2x 2GB of G skill and then 2x 4 GB G skill with same model and wait for Intel platform. I really wanted to wait and see what next you know.

Raid ssds are excessive.
Raid 0 hdds are meh...safer with an ssd, unless you are dealing with raw video footage etc when you need lots of space on a tight budget. Raid 1/5/6 is another story.

If you can work it out with $70-80 and just 8 gb for now, I would say definitely wait.

What CPU/GPU do you have, because it sounds like you could do with a upgrade.

*edit* doh, looks like your rig didn't load for me the first time, now I see it.

For example you could get this

Yea still same old rig sir. I just now upgraded with 3 SSD the 840 Pro. And found some corsair memory 8 GB 1066 from ebay. And sold my 3x2GB kit lol..

I was going to get the Asus sabertooth Gen 3.0 rev 2.0 that had the support for PCI 3.0 but they stop selling those they got rare now. My friend told me to keep on waiting till they put out the new chipset 1090FX. And I can always put my old CPU in the AM3+ in the board and upgrade with some 2400 2x8 GB kit and lower my timing and speed and call it a day and wait for another upgrade for the CPU

But I also like the i5 haswell. cheap and lot of overclocking too. Just 4 more months then I will upgrade with new mobo and rams. Thanks for this Alanim
