Looking for a quiet case with 360mm top rad and good ventilation

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I'm looking to get the new swiftech h320 soon and will be plugging it on an ivy bridge e 4960x/30k when it arrives. I currently have a Sandy bridge e chip and my h100 could only push it to 4.8ghz with noisy fans.

I used to own a haf x and I consider it's default fans noisy even on low.

Currently own a Cosmos two and its quiet enough, I'm willing to compromise. It will also be air cooling a rampage 4 extreme motherboard with two titans attached to it so an E-ATX case with at least 6 slots and good front and bottom/side ventilation.

I'm not really looking for a window or for a case which is a looker but I don't mind anything flashy, I'm not picky at all.

Would really appreciate some help on choosing a good, quiet case with decent ventilation, nothing else matters to me to be honest.

I'm looking to change the cosmos 2 since the bottom hdd cages are useless waste of space and the case took modding to fit a h100 with fans inside so a thicker rad thats a 360 rad isn't going to fit.

All I'm hoping for in no order is:

  • Front USB 3.0 ports (two is fine from motherboard header)
  • Metal case to reduce noise, foam isn't necessary but if its a case with it why not, to my knowledge plastic is noisier
  • Decent cooling so no front restriction from hard drive cages (I can tape two ssds for storage somewhere I don't use internal HDDs) and if available bottom or side intake for the graphics cards, I'd appreciate a 2-5 degree improvement from the cosmos two bearing in mind two (greater than 50% due to metal covering half the intake and filters) restricted 120mm side intakes and a very restricted front 200mm fan with no bottom intake.
  • I'm not to worried about the CPU cooling area as I'll be aiming between 4.6-8 ghz depending on the chip so no crazy voltages or benching at 5ghz or anything like that, I'm just looking for a better cooling solution with larger surface area. (I typically test back intake top exhaust and vice-versa for temp differences and run the best.)
  • The case must have decent filters for the front/side/bottom. I'm used to adding my own filters for the back and top fans when testing out cooling configurations, I have a couple 120 and 140mm filters but anything extra wont hurt (like psu filters).
  • I'm looking to fit 1200w psus in there to accommodate newer parts and additions so 180mm psu clearance at most is a plus, I currently run a 180mm silent pro gold (coolermaster) but if the perfect case comes up with a say 160mm space available I'll change it up.
  • Everything like size/price/looks are pretty irrelevant to me, I'm not sure if anything like $600 will be found so I'll manage smile.gif

Thank you very much for reading, and hopefully for replying. Ask me anything you want I'll try my best to reply asap and I appreciate the replies smile.gif

If it helps in anyway I'm shopping from outside the USA but I'll be buying from there (most likely amazon.com as they ship to po boxes) but I have some family there studying so anything from newegg etc. is also fine.

Thanks again smile.gif

If you are willing to do a bit of modding, check out the Fractal Design Define R4. The top has native support for a 240MM rad, so if you were up to it, you could mod in a third spot as long as you are willing to lose your DVD drives.

Caselabs merlin series.

Without a doubt the best cases on the market, and thus by far. To get more information about them, send a PM to Jim in the caselabs subforum, he'll help you out wink.gif

PS: Forgot to specify that Jim is Caselabs, the moderator of the subforum here on OCN wink.gif

Nanoxia deep silence 6 would be the perfect case but since it isnt out yet, i would consider a NZXT h630.
